Aseefa to be sworn in as MNA today

NA speaker summoned session on requisition of opposition parties

ISLAMABAD:

Aseefa Bhutto-Zardari, daughter of the late former premier Benazir Bhutto and sister of PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, is set to officially commence her parliamentary duties on Monday.

She will be sworn in as a member of the National Assembly, marking her formal entry into the political arena.

Aseefa's induction into parliament represents another significant chapter in the political saga of the Bhutto dynasty, which was initiated by her maternal grandfather, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, the founder of PPP and a former premier.

Following in the footsteps of her late mother and grandfather, Aseefa will carry forward their political legacy alongside her elder brother, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

NA Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has summoned the session of the lower house of parliament on the requisition of opposition parties – scheduled for 5pm.

The agenda for the meeting will solely focus on matters raised by the opposition.

However, the joint session of parliament has been rescheduled.

Originally scheduled for April 16 (Tuesday), the joint session will now take place on April 18 (Thursday). President Asif Ali Zardari is expected to address the combined sitting of both the houses of parliament. This will mark the commencement of the new parliamentary year.

The president summoned the joint session of parliament while exercising of the powers conferred by Article 54(1) and 56(3) of the Constitution.
