The Scary Movie franchise, known for sending chills and giggles down spines in equal measure, is set for a reboot.

The news of the reboot broke at Paramount's CinemaCon 2024 panel, revealing a co-production with Miramax. While many details of the project are known, some key pieces of the puzzle are starting to come together.

Fast & Furious and Sonic the Hedgehog producer Neal H. Moritz is stepping behind the scenes to bring the scares (and the laughs) back to life.

Filming is expected to begin this fall, with a target release date sometime in 2025. Paramount will handle distribution duties, while Miramax will finance the project.

This partnership signifies a return to the roots for Scary Movie, as Miramax was the studio behind the original films.

What exactly will this new take on terror entail? The specific plot and comedic targets are still under wraps.

However, given the ever-evolving landscape of horror movies, the reboot promises to poke fun at the genre's recent resurgence.

From the dominance of Blumhouse to the successful Scream revival, there's plenty of fresh material just begging to be parodied.

The question of casting also remains unanswered. Will the familiar faces of the original Scary Movie crew return?

Will a whole new cast of comedic heroes rise to the challenge? Or perhaps the reboot will take a "legacy sequel" approach, featuring a blend of both?

Only time will tell who will be bringing the funny and the frights to the big screen.

With plenty of fresh horror trends to spoof, this Scary Movie reboot does promise to tickle funny bones and terrify... with laughter, that is.
