Transporters overcharging passengers fined

Rs0.744m seized, excessively charged fares returned to passengers

The Sindh Road Transport Authority (SRTA), following the directives from Provincial Minister of Transport and Mass Transit, Sharjeel Inam Memon, launched a crackdown on transporters overcharging fares.

As Eid-ul-Fitr approaches, transporters as usual started charging excessive fares from passengers. Receiving the report of this unlawful act, the SRTA took action against 471 vehicles and retrieved Rs744,000 unlawfully collected from the passengers which was promptly refunded to the affected passengers.

Moreover, fines totaling Rs195,000 were imposed on the errant transporters. Notable areas targeted in the crackdown included Karachi Saddar, Superhighway, and various bus stands across the province.

Passengers have lauded the Sindh government's proactive step against fare hikes. Sharjeel emphasised that safeguarding the welfare and rights of citizens remains paramount for the Sindh government. He reiterated his dedication to fostering a transparent, efficient transportation system that serves the best interests of people.
