CM says not satisfied with law & order

Orders strengthening of police stations where crime rate is high

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah in a meeting discussed the law and order situation in the city and praised the city police for successfully rescuing two kidnapped victims from Baldia area.

He expressed his desire to cultivate this spirit of dedication and hard work in the police department so that the city could become a peaceful and liveable megalopolis.

The meeting was attended by Additional IG Karachi Imran Yakoob, DIG Mukadas Hyder, and the police party that participated in the operation to rescue two kidnapped persons. The police party included SSP AVCC Zafar Siddiqui, DSP Qaiser Shah, Inspector, Abid Hussain, Sub Inspector Ghulam Rasool, Head Constable Tariq Samad, Khawar Yusuf, lady police Constable Aresha Naz.

The CM said that he was not satisfied with the law & order situation in the city. "I know the police were working hard but special focus was needed on the hotspots where the crime rate was high," he said and directed additional IG to strengthen the police stations where the crime ratio is high.

Additional IG told the CM that the crime rate in the city has been recorded at 166 cases per day means less than one case per police station. He added that the crime rate in the other big cities of other provinces was high but even then, the situation was being controlled through extensive checking, patrolling and intelligence.

CM said that every day people were being killed for resisting the robbers. "This is quite painful, and it becomes our responsibility to protect the life, liberty and property of every citizen," he said and directed the additional IG to replace the lethargic police officers with efficient and hardworking.

Imran Yakoob informed the CM that a raid was conducted on Sunday, using latest technology four kidnappers - identified as Sabir, Inayat, Hazrat Ali, and Wahidullah - were arrested in an injured condition after an encounter. The abductees, Shahid, and Abdullah were successfully rescued from the clutches of the accused.

CM was further informed that a gang of criminals, operating from an emirate in the UAE, was involved in kidnapping innocent people for ransom.

Imran Yakoob stated that he had collected all the clues and data of the gangsters and they would soon be arrested with support of the UAE authorities.

Shah mentioned that he has sent IG Ghulam Nabi to the riverine area and ensure the safe recovery of kidnapped persons. The CM expressed concern over the increasing street crime in the city and kidnapping for ransom in the kutcha area, and emphasised that the police, with the support of Rangers and other law enforcement agencies, take strict actions to eliminate the criminals.

Meanwhile, in another meeting in a meeting which was held to review the progress of 'the Strengthening Social Protection Delivery System in Sindh (SSPDS)' at CM House Shah said that through the Social Protection Delivery System, the Mother and Child Support Programme (MCSP) has been launched under which so far Rs163.584 million cash was transferred for pregnant and lactating women.

Shah said that the MCSP has been introduced to encourage pregnant women and mothers of under two-year-old children to utilize maternal, newborn, and child healthcare services (MNCH) throughout the continuum of care for 1,000 days from conception.

The beneficiaries of the MCSP will avail of WHO-recommended MNCH services throughout the continuum of care for 1,000 days from conception and are considered essential for the well-being of the mother and child.

The CM instructed the Social Protection Department to issue CNICs to mothers so that they take advantage of the project.
