Khurram Shahzad, a final year student at the university, shot dead Vice Principal Brig (R) Sanaullah in the incident which took place around 10am on the university campus.
Shahzad managed to smuggle the weapon onto the premises without being noticed by security guards. He proceeded to enter different departments on campus and fired four shots in total.
Shahzad also fired shots at other teachers and security guards, however, the vice principal was shot at point blank range and died on the spot. The body has been taken away for autopsy.
The accused has been taken into custody and is being interrogated by police.
A member of the HR department of the university said that Shahzad had been enrolled since 2002, and had repeated his fourth year four times. He had earlier been expelled by the administration, but was enrolled once again after his parents pleaded with university authorities to allow him to continue his studies.
RIU authorities said that Shahzad was suffering from depression, and had attempted suicide in the past, adding that his mental state was “questionable”.
RIU is located in Rawalpindi. It was established in 2002 by the Islamic International Medical College Trust (IIIMCT) and is a non-profit, non-political, non-sectarian welfare organisation registered with the government of Pakistan.
It is chartered by the federal government.

Well! it`s seeming as our country is straightly going to hell. We are weakening our curriculam system by illiminating wroth and honour student possess for their teachers.. There were days when prospector was concieved to be Ur spritual parent, while now alarming spot we have taken our nation, by commeting westernization by every means...
@Ahmad Jibran: Killing one human being means killing the whole mankind, we live in a civilized society, I don't know about you.If you think that brutal killing is justified, I would suggest you do the same to your father if he tries to stop you from something, because teachers are mentors and spritual fathers. You don't deserve to live with human beings and I suggest that you should go and live with animals where there is law of the jungle. Our nation needs humanity and not murderers and their supporters. We all need to get rid of people like you from Pakistan if it is to prosper.
@Ali conclusions pe pehle na pohncho. and yeah he won't burn in hell if he wasn't wrong. You guys are saying dat dis brig. was a real nice guy and that khurram shahzad is a criminal. Do you guys even know what's the story behind this incident? Aaj kal teachers think dat wo he sub kch hai. If student un k samne kch bole den un ka pura future khrab. I am a student and I know k teachers kis ko kese treat krte hai n kiun. cuz mere sath huwa hai. Koi bhe ese he muu utha k pistol le k Kisi ko shoot ne krta. Us k peche solid reason hota hai.
The administration sometime becomes more of a god. Why ppl see one side of the story and make a judgement? You push someone beyond their limits than you are bound to get a reaction. Not defending his actions but the VC should have seen it coming IF he and the administration were guilty in playing with the future of the kid!
I can empathize his feelings, coz i got a supply 2 times in FSc , n i know how cruel the behavior of teachers and the fellow students become with you. it is a very serious matter n no one try to liten u seriously. we create a pre-set standards in our mind before talking to that person "HE IS TOO DULL, HE IS A FAILURE" this attitude just kills u from inside. we should not blame him alone, we all are educated and must observe this situation carefully and analyze results for future. If a student is getting thrice, it is not the fault of the student, it is purely the fault of the university and the teachers there.
very bad teacher and students need to upgrade the level of institutions instead of spreading the bad name of pakistan
Such institutions should be shut down where students stay in this level of stress and depression.@Dr Ayaz Ahmad Khan:
This is due to fault in our system. The medical training should be tough and comprehensive but exams should be flexible. Unfortunately it is opposite here. Why university administration was not passing him repeatedly. Reasons should be checked properly. Any person can go into depression under such circumstances. Although he commited a crime but since he is suffering from a psychiatric disorder he should not be punished. Such universities should be shut down where students stay in this level of stress and depression.
although wateva shahzad done is so sad n shamefull. . . .but it is a fact that some where the Vice principal would b guilty coz i have personally xperienced that adminastrative ppl of universities n colloges treats students so harshly. . . .
besides all this discussion i will add one thing more that for students it will be good. this uni should lean from this that students have the heart they have the feelings. and riphah uni have no rite to play with it.... specially for faculty of computing.... they even didn't knows the truth just, because of their personal grudges they play with students future....
im a doctor qualified from a public institution in Punjab, seldom it happens that a professor hunts down a student times and again in the vivas just for the sake of his personal likes and dislikes and his doings outside of the college and irrelevant to his academic circle. they just use their divine power to fail anyone in the vivas and continue to do it time and again, so every action has its reaction, im nt in fr this student but both hands clap together, also there are ppl like munib who are trying to link this to some sort of militancy and terrorism and army, wtf, are you in ur senses, what an individual action has to do with culture and norms and also militancy, and theone who said abt retired army man serving in this institution, fr god sake get a life, he wasan ex army man, and the institution ws private, so ay body can hire any body, damn get it
My God.. Please have a look at Pakistan.
well these incidents are obviously goanna happen when such private colleges will admit the weak students for tough courses like MBBS for the sake of money only
you guys remember when a teacher raped a 6 year old girl in Sindh in '06 and when another teacher burned up a 9 year old in Chakwaal back in '09 and we have countless incidents of teachers beating up their students to death throughout Pakistan. All that I can say at the moment is that we have entered into a new era now where PAYBACK IS A BITCH apparently, not quite different from the Americans now, CONGRATULATIONS fellow brethren as we are not very far away from annihilation !!!
khurran shahzad was pshyzophrenic. vice principal sent a termination letter to his father and said he is not able to study more as the medical reports suggests, the criminal shot him as the letter was signed by vice principal. after clearing his fourth year he went to america for treatment and remained there almost for 4 years. so no case of repeated failures. this year he came back and got mad on receiving the termination letter. no militancy and terrorism, it was the result of disease, so come on valid grounds in order to comment.
when private universities liberally admit students to make money without regard for the ability and capacity of a student to accomplish the course work, such like incidents do occur. The criminal may be a psychopath but he certainly lacked the capacity and sense of serious work required for medical education.
@Wajeeha:
What's wrong if a "Retired" Brig is vice principal? Just because he's an ex army officer doesn't mean he has lost the right to work. And FYI in Army people retire on completion of 30-35 years of service i.e. before reaching the age of superannuation. A person in 50's has all the rights to earn and support his family. Please keep your anti-army sentiments at rest.
INDEED, it's a SAD incident. May justice is done.
I think it was partly the parent's fault, I mean, if your child can't clear his final year in the 4th attempt you should stop pushing him. It is terribly sad to see people not giving mental health as much attention as it deserves, there could be many reasons, and the admin was getting fee off of him what did they care even if he had to spent the next 15 years in the same university. It is just sad when people think they will be automatically deemed insane if they visit a psychiatrist. I pray for the departed and let God be the judge of this, but I somehow feel the pain the student must have gone through to commit such an action.
Hello,
sad to hear about the VP. As far as i think. if student was mentally sick then how the hell he thought of killing his TEACHER. There must be something teacher did wrong with him.. well i don't know whats going in b/w them. well.. RIP!
@Mariam b: unfortunately many professors deserve this come on mam four years they are failing the guy they have made that student mentaly chellangd. these professors at times play god. i am not defending the action but please there are so many students that are victem of such nonsence from professors.
don't wory it is happening everywhere in the whold.
I think we should also find out the real conditions and situations that urged Shehzad to take such a step. I agree that what he did is not good. The question is that WHAT MADE A MEDICAL STUDENT TO TAKE SUCH AN EXTREME STEP ? Mind it that there must have been some injustice done to him while he was a student.
hey salman you are the student of this university so can you explain how this very incident took place?????@Salman Yahya:
one of my friends who is studying there told me that he wanted to get re-checked his papers because he sure that he has passed, bu the university didn't allow that.. He also went to court and took orders, when the university re-checked his papers he was passed ,but the university was not changing his marks , i think we can well understand his mental situation a person who has been trying to secure his positions for the last 4 years and the university was refusing. what do we expect than?..its not the only case in RIPAH,if you ask students, millions of students are facing these problems.. whenever you go the dean of the principal they don't listen, they behave as they are the superior authority of the world, there behaviour is rude..they say please go to room ABC, when you go there they say go to ROOM XYZ, nad people in ROOM XYZ will send you to some ROOM 1234. and the cylce goes on......
influence of the liberals
@Wajeeha and others: He was also a Medical Doctor, an experienced one at that, of which we have great shortage at the moment. While it may be easier to blame the army for all our ills, sometimes it helps to understand the overall situation before jumping to a conclusion
You all have neglected one aspect of this incident which is is the most important, that is, conversion disorder ( a mind disorder) of the Student who killed the vp. This is an increasing problem of our country which is an aggravted form of depression and needs serious attention. But mostly we take it as angriness etc.
Lets see when he will be released due to lack of evidence.
brig. Sana ullah khan was indeed the only one who listened to the complaints of student...... he was indeed a very good man, a good VP in the history of IIMC .......may his soul rest in peace amen....... i feel really sorry for the bereaved family, it shouldn't have happened ..... it shouldn't happen again ever anywhere.....
and about student yeah he entered RIU/IIMC as a human but University converted him into a beast ..... this is horrible....... and questionable.... what factors lead to such a horrible incident.....still questionable. may Allah taa'la keep all of us in peace of mind always ......amen
@MUNIB: i dont think this is a case of jihadist fundamentalist mindset. this guy is clearly troubled in the head. just the like the dude responsible for the virgina tech shootings in america a few years ago
sad
Why play the blame game. The guy has admitted to the murder because he has been failing. His parents should've stepped up as responsible, sensible adults and addressed his issues instead of having him pursue a medical career - which he was clearly no capable of accomplishing.
It's so sad that muslims are killing muslims. We all need to go back to the Quran, read it and understand it. Islam does not preach violence. Those who disagree don't have a clear understanding of the Book. Allah guide us and keep us on the straight path. A life has been lost and we should make dua for him and ask Allah swt to forgive him and grant him a place in Jannah.
@MUNIB: More like you are the one with Mindset about the Pakistan. Please stop referring other problems with this one.
I think a person like you is more sick than that who is bringing Religion in this. History clearly shows that christians has killed and Massacred more people than any other religion.
American foundation is on the base of Barbarian. They killed so many million Native indians and occupied their land. Look what india is doing in Kashmir and other stats? Killing and raping.
I did not want to bring this topic here but you are mentally retarted who is commenting other than the actual issue in this article.
@MUNIB: In American Universities these things happen more often. How about that? We often read that a student killed other students and Teachers in American Universities.
Indian flocks on every media site and find news about the Pakistan and start giving negative comments. OPPORUNISTS!
This sad incident has nothing to do with the Militancy. Stop involving Militancy in every event heppens here.
You Of Pakistan and All of us Should be Patient,Ploite ,educated humble like Non-Muslims .You see every one want to take revenge....Some one is killing Governer Punjab,Some one is killing his parents,Some one is killing Principal etc...Every one want to show him self as a terrorist n want to terrorize others ......Wehere this society goin on..........May GOD Guide all of Us to the right Path...People like this should be punish by Court.so that others can learn from them but we can also see the decisions of Courts .
Brig Sanaullah was my teacher. He was a very kind gentleman. I've graduated from this institution and believe me that major criteria for passing an exam is the personal liking and disliking of teachers, specially the teachers who have Army background, and the administration always turn a deaf year towards student. Thank God I didn't become schizophrenic and never stopped my struggle. Despite all their efforts, I was not ready to lick their boots and at last they had to let me go with my degree. I feel sorry for Brig Sana bcoz he was probably the only one who always listened to the students... May Allah give him place in paradise. Ameen.
this is a sad news... when parents do not understand the problems of children and are busy in their own lives.. such accidents are likely to occur. we need to change our attitude towards such people. the best is to know them.what actually is going inside them.since 2002 he was unable to complete his bachelors. there was something lacking that is why he could not do it. why forcing him again and again and pleading to the university authorities. there must be an anger going inside him that he diverted in a very wrong direction. its sad to know abt the loss the family of vice principal is going to bear. in the end all credit goes to our corrupt leadership for making the life of common man in Pakistan difficult.. thats a slap to all of us that such incidents are happening in our uni's. what is the security of life of a person in pakistan..
Where is our morality and sanity? How can someone do that no matter what. A very tragic incident. And the security system needs to be enhanced. I mean how on earth is a student able to carry a weapon in the vicinity of a university.
shame on him. and i salute Mr. Waqas Aasi who grabs him before he jumps out and escapes from the location....
aik insan ko 4 barr fail kero gay... tu insan depression n sucide attempt he keray ga.. wat stimulated him to kill .. tat is questionable ... may b other students also involved who used himm . GOD KNOW BETTER
All educational institutions should have a "Psychological Assessment Center" or at least a Psychological assessment paper must also be included in University Entrance Exams, PLUS, there should also be a course of "Self Motivation" or "How to Handle Depression" in every field of study. According to Psychological point of view, we are living in very bad mental circumstances. Moreover, all of us need to do some introspection.
@ Sanity
I agree why he was allowed to continue in clear violation of rules.
@Wahab: True there are many security checkpoints but they don't do a body search you see. One allows the cars into the premises, one 'manages' the parking lot, another one manages the entry point into the building itself near the lawn. Thats all. There are no metal detectors or anything of that sort either, so its very easy to conceal a small weapon and head inside.
"but was enrolled once again after his parents pleaded with university authorities to allow him to continue his studies."
That brought a tear to my eye. I cannot even imagine what the parents must be going through.
Hang him!
@MAJID ISLAM: dear brother, one can understand the pain, Thou i agree that teachers should be acting like real fathers and to some extent they also are, But this is no way a justifiable act. I feel Even a louder voice is a condemnable act. My dear brother your near and dear ones can help u more. Don't Blame teachers.
( I AM A BUSINESSMAN BY PROFESSION)
@ that's wrong and many others who do not know rules and regulations of PMDC must know that...medical student has to complete his basic sciences subjects in total four attempts.if he fails he can't continue anymore. If the student passed the 2 yrs of basic sciences than next 3yrs of mbbs he can avail as many attempts as he can..
Is anybody injured? I heared that Col. Yousaf, Ayaz Bhatti and and female lecturer are injured
And also things need to be clarified here. Late Brig Sanaullah was the Vice Principal of Islamic International Medical College, Rawalpindi which is 'governed' so as to say, by the Riphah International University. So, he was the VP of IIMC and not RIU.
so sad incident, our college vice principal Brig.(R) Sana ullah khan has passed away.May Allah forgive him, ameen
I'm Final year medical student at IIMC.The College administration had issue with him due to his poor class record and attendance.we have come to know that a committee took decision to call his parents and tell them he has again failed to show interest and must discontinue his medical studies because he was not fit for it.and today his unfortunate incident happened. We all pay respect to our dear VP and pray for him
Very sad News, What the teacher has done surely is bad. Most of the teachers in our country are untrained, and ill-mannered and revengry in nature filing of several years. I remembered the suicide of Shaheed Dawood Ahmad who committed suicide in TV room of Hostel 4 of UET Peshawar in 1994 in front of so many student in response to Teachers behavior. There are hundred of thousands students daily suffering due to such attitudes. But such happenings sometime in years. Very bad it was terrorism on both ends. Private Institutes makes so many bad things. Being teacher I and my community is suffering from the attitude of administration of Private educational Institutions, like to pass those students who are never ever able to pass. So mediation should be created in all of the Institution of country by following the merit while selecting teachers adn admitting the students.I t should be some ahead of business.
Such an unfortunate, shocking incident. Brig. Sanaullah did not deserve this. No one deserves to die like this.
He was a humble, helping and kind man. I can say this from personal experiences. He helped me out in every little problem I faced in my five years of education at the institute. Very kind, very understanding.
A very very sad incident and a huge loss. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
I am sure it sounds pretty alarming but could it be action of irritation by corruption in the education sector ?
people have lost sense of accountability.i think they have forgotten that they will be answerable to Allah for their deeds. it is also a message for those parents who keep on forcing their children to persue a proffesin without taking into account their apptitude. also the administration is responsible who while giving addmisions only considers the financial status but does not pay attention to the student's etical and physcological state.
what was he suppose to do when he failed for fourth times in fourth semester
Sad incident, has no link with militancy.
@saad: If students of this institution write and spell like you did, this institution should be shut down.
Injustice, corruption, self-interest, approach, unfair use of power and lack of mutual respect and understanding leads such situations. Every Deptt. is entirely corrupt and using power against innocents and powerless. Need Justice, justice and justice quick and timely justice
I think the boy's father should be charged for murder in the first degree for forcing him to continue studies in his mental state. Why do such parents force their children to do things beyond their capacities?
May his soul rest in peace.was a nice person.
this killing has nothing to do with militancy or the wave of terrorism that has spread through out our country in the past few years. according to the text, this person had to repeat his fourth year thrice, imagine how frustrating that would be . and now a days there is a lot of pressure on students from their parents , this could be one reason why he wanted to commit suicide in the first place and ended up killing the VP. also even of he had some psychological problem his parents should have had him treated rather than sending them back to college and then pressurizing him about the grades. i would not blame that person completely, i am a student too and i know how much pressure we have to face in society. and this person had been in college since 2002 . for 8 years he was trying to clear his class. this person needs help , he should be sent to a psychaitrist. also the death of the VP is indeed very tragic, may his soul rest in peace.
on a very normal day in Pakistan....
Hahahaha. According to some genius militancy, mullah and Zia ul haq are responsible for this incident too. Is militancy in Pakistan responsible for campus shootings in USA universities Mr Munib?
What an idiotic conclusion.
I DONOT believe that it was the fault of the Student Khurram completely.Even if he was Schizophrenic or depressed or whatever I fully believe that the administration and the poor dead VC had a lot to do with it all.Firstly RIPAH UNI is NOT A NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION.THIS IS ALL A LIE....These ppl fool poor students and lure them into the universities.RIPAH AND iSLAMIC mEDICAL cOLLEGE IS NOT even recognized by ECFMG and other international medical certification bodies.Majority of the students studying there are those who didnot get admission in other recognized medical schools hence these students are obviously not upto the mark for Medical studies and then the VC and a lot of Staff is so corrupt.I am so sure they were delibrately not passing this poor student, maybe cuz he spoke straightforwadly to them or maybe cuz he did not pay heed to their demands..This is so so crimnal. How cud these so-called mentors and VC's ruing a young man's life....Khaurram shud be admittied in the hospital for treatment and a full unbiased investigation shud be carried out to find out the cause. Also those students of RIPAH who have faced such similar situtaions shud speak outright and let everyone know the reality behind these SCARRED UGLY faces...
@MAJID ISLAM: It means In Near future Faisalabad University...
everytime i have to remind about my comments posted here. what to those posted quite some time ago please. is there anyone listening / /
Shameful Act ..
we so easily and so wrongly blame outside world for our own follies and failures. Its high time to start taking responsibilities of our mistakes, and stop blaming others. This murder has nothing to do with religion or politics I guess. Our parents and teachers both r responsible for such acts as no body in our society pays attention to mental problems.
@Munib This is the very first incident in a university in Pakistan. Before you reach to the conclusion read some facts from the internet, there have been many such incidents in last few years in US. Will you please give some information regarding such incidents in the third world?
@Shah: it's seems that living in denial is equivalent to patriotism in this country.
I feel sorry for the principal and student. Studying in same uni for above 7 years n not getting degree will make anyone insane.
@Ali. Mir: Have you not seen deranged students attack and kill students in other countries? It happens in Canada, the US and Europe too. Some students are psychologically unstable and this type of thing happens all over. It's sad that some people in Pakistan have such little understanding of similar events all over the world.
The incident is tragic but I can't understand those who are spreading despondency for no reason. Such deaths/murders happen in all countries, almost everyday, but people don't start calling their country a failed state. This is ridiculous.
School/college/university shoot-outs are more common in USA than any part of the world.
Let's speak sense, instead of showing a sadist mentality.
Shameful Act ..May the Soul of the VP rest into peace . and may Allah give his Dependents the power to bear this ..
@Ahmad Jibran: so cold-blooded murder is justified?? I am horrified that this comment has been allowed on tribune's website.
@Fyza javed:
By your logic, so is the US and most other developed nations...
Plz think before you speak.
He was a mental patient; it happens everywhere in the world
In my view it is the college administrators who should be blamed (and booked) firstly for having an enterance criteria that allows students of questionable mental health and academic abilities to be admitted, and secondly for doing away with uni norms and regulations and readmitting the accused on his parents' pleading.
salam .do u know ? y its happen wd dis principal ?is dis student mental ? y he is being fail for 4 time ? i think there is sme thing going wrong from administration side ! when administration ruine d future f student then student want runie them . so teacher should also care about student future ? i hv seen lot f case in which student are being fail due to bcz teacher did not like him. and no 1 ask to teacher that y u failed ds student ? uni want to make money ? i think this is business nothing else .
@ali: Not one of the comments before yours had blamed this sad incidence on Islamists. The blame lies squarely on the culture of militancy which was (and is still being) promoted in our country. No doubt, it was promoted under the guise of Islamism, but the two should now at least be clearly separated. Your comment highlights a sad state of affairs: that Islamists and militants have come to mean one and the same thing in your perception; that's why you jump to defend Islamists when the comment was directed against militancy.
The killer, Khurram Shahzad, is my classfellow in same institute. He is Schizophrenic and did this to "settle his score" with these authorities.
riphah university made him mentally ill
Its happened because of the mentallity of entire society, in particular parents, who want to see their children as doctors and engineers instead of knowing the capabilities of their children. when these kids got stuck in the way to become an engineer or doctor they start threating the professors.
Private Institutions are also held responsible for these incidents, because they do not have strict admission policies and the only eligibility criteria is that whether a student can pay the dues, also because to get more and more money from the students they give admissions to below average students. And in the long run they start making problems for the entire institution.
What you have to do is to continue paying tution fee.Keep yourself for four years in the same year. What a funny situation.Money makes the mare go.Nobody asked him,"please leave us now,you have already spent enough time here.Let someone else join us".Keep your account clear you can continue for indefinate period. Now there is a talk about "depression" of the killer. What depression.he had enough time to stroll in the university. This psychological reason might be braught up as reason to release the killer.
the act of one mad man , for that is what he is, cannot be taken to black list the entire university. period. stop judging. start thinking.
What is happening to our country? Is it becoming USA?
i am really amazaed by the replies here. its not about a nation or religion. its about the system and society. a person who is mentally imbalance was part of the society. he was a student of the education institute. the society and mainly the institute failed to spot the severity of his sickness and failed to provide a hand via proper support system. also easy access to the deadly weapons is a cause of concern.
@Asim: what ever was happened Norway i dont want to relate what is happening in Pakistan. We have to see our collar. what we had promoted in pakistan, sectarianism our so called Ulamas are not doing any thing rather to collect money and save in their banks same as our other polotician had done.... i was soo happy when MMA won a heavy mandiate in NWFP and made Govt. but what happen during the whole tenure .... they were given 5 years.. they sucked up like what other politicians did ..... we have to stand .. we have to stand against these Fatwa factories we are running...
mr khurram shazad was a schizophrenic and mentally unstable even in his better days, it falls on the people around him that they were unable to notice his potentially dangerous behavior ...still it is a sad incident. how much blame can be parted to mr, khurram, im not sure of. i hope that the family of brig. sana finds some peace, he was truly a good man
@MUNIB: u are true... as a matter of fact we are playing with the religion had forgotten all the values what Prophet (PBUH) had teaches through his saying and from his life and with Quran.
they way we are living we are only the muslim and rest issued a fatwa of Qafir..... sheea to sunnis and suuni to shiaa ..... and every one combined against Ahmadies... saying Qafir to All ahmadies....
no one has this authority to decide about any ones religion as Qafir or not.
What actions in past were taken against the student whose mental condition was questionable.
@ munib !!! well i am still thinking about the incident of 22 july in NORWAY. I THINK THAT PERSON WAS PRESENTING FLOWERS TO 68 PEOPLE. That's so called civillized crap. Dude! everything you see is much more highlighted by media and why don't you must watch innocent Muslims killed by people. Nobody vows over that. You tell me, suppose,if i will be fighting against your terror and criminal activities then i will be a hero for those on which you are doing your cruel acts !!! Go , get a life dude !!! 1st at least try to think neutral. !!!
teachers are like parents who thaught us spirituals lessons, these kind of issues are very common in our society, due to having a psychologically ill society. this is psychologically depression problem. May Allah bless the victim (Ameen)
Due to depression, injustice and undue favoratism/liking/ disliking based most of of ladies and gentlemen are enoyed and adopted the way of TERRORISM. No doubt it is not the to express ones feeling but the SENIORS should also amend there ways otherwise this type of events can be enhanced. May Allah keep us in peace of mind. Ameen.
i need facts
Sad -both for the Vice Principal and the illfated student
so sad to realize that no one is discussing about what factors brought shahzad to this stage.who is responsible? every one is debating army muslim kaafir guns ,america pakistan islam.what the hell
This is really sad!
Where is my comment???? I was the 6th one who commented and i still can't see my comment!!!!!
@Ahmad Jibran: Are you justifying the killing fields of Pakistan by giving me statement on what US has done? Supposedly they are infidels and you have the higher moral ground on this.
Are you implying that if US kills a million means we have a right to do atleast half a million?
On Swiss Accounts.... why do you have such corrupt leaders who plunder and fill their banks? Catch your thieves dont blame the vault.
What is your argument?
I think that's the way it is, this is how our society functions always waiting for an accident or incident to open our minds and eyes.
Similar shooting incidents happens everywhere in the world. Even US universities faced such incidents. Nothing extra ordinary but people need to report any abnormal behavour of their peers to the management to avoid such incidents.
HE SEEMS MENTAL PATIENT ...But still INTELLIGENT in hiding weapons from security guard ..... Shame on Security
Hellloo - the guy sounds like a nutcase plain and simple! Attempted suicide before and was in depression! I think we can leave militancy and extremism out of this one. Something like this happens almost every year on american campuses. We shouldnt make every issue something it isnt.
i was in class at first we thought dat some of the students are cracking fire crackers then all of sudden a boy came up with this sad news he was a great man indeed may his soul rest in eternal peace ameen
the loss of any human is the loss anyway ... so sad to hear but certainly we need to encounter the facts that what makes the guy to do like that .. why he become a psyche patient ... this should be treated as a national issue rather calming a boy as a murderer.
@Ahmad Jibran: that is a ridiculous and dangerous way of thinking.Shame on you.If the next person who you disagree with(at work, while driving, employee, your wife etc) pulls out a gun and shoots you would you think it is justifiable? This is the reason we are a lawless and wild society and the reason even our legitimate degrees are not worth crap anywhere in the world
@Asim It happens because only Muslims love to issue "kafir" certificates, only in a Muslim country the parliament decides on behalf of GOD on who is a MUSLIM and who is NOT. Only in PAK people run "fatwa manufacturing companies" and because only in PAK and Arab world a TERRORIST killer is a HERO (you are right i am referring to Mumtaz Qadri) so start looking into our collars than wondering why our killings are associated with Religion , PAK etc
No such crap is found (generally) in civilized world
horrible
The university authorities took a wrong decision when they readmitted the student even though he was not allowed as per rules.
@MUNIB: America has a gun culture.
well i can feel the pain of this person named shahzad.i am a university student in faisalabad.i have been suffering from panic disorder agoraphobia and depression from last 5 years.no one in my university listened to me or tried to feel my pain, instead i always listened from them funny comments in response when i asked from them any sort of relaxation. sir i have panic disorder ,i am unable to concentrate. response from sir o great ,what a new technology to make the teachers fool...waisey beta ye panic disorder kis k sath khaatey hain.ha ha ha ha.
then what sould i do?? what should shahzad do???????
plz tribune do post it,,dnt neglect it.
One man lost his life other has almost, even if he is not hanged episode would ruin his career and remaining life our society has got cancer of voilance that if not controlled we would soon be mourning on the carcass. Neutrally speaking government neither has resources nor appropriatly skilled and motivated man power to confront the menace, espacialy when individuals take pleasure in undermining rights of fellow citizens and state. The most Govt can do is to disarm everyone at once and with full vigour. May Allah lead us to a solution before imminent mass bloodshed. Amin!
i am amazed at the fact that in your piece, you have written that RIU has been enstablished by the Islamic International Medical College Trust (IIMCT) which you state is a non-political, non-sectarian organisation registered with the government of Pakistan.....while the website of RIU states the following about IIMCT and i copy here, "IIMC-T intends to help Muslim Ummah in solving the pressing problem of deteriorating academic standard, by establishing State of the Art Institutions in Pakistan, engaging eminent scholars and scientists. In accordance with the mission statement, strong emphasis is laid on inculcation of islamic ethical values amongst the students to produce good muslim doctors, engineers and social scientists."......i wonder and doubt what type of knowledge they have been emparting, where the Managing Trustee of IIMCT was also the VC of the RIU...in short, it seems like a self-serving, tax bachao scheme for the now dead VC and nothing more....
Very Saddened To Hear This News...May Allah Grant Comfort And Strength To The Family Of The Victim To Bear Their Terrible Loss...
I don't know why people link every murder to ISLAM and PAKISTAN n blah blah. This happens everywhere in WORLD. That person was schizophrenic and was under treatment. Now whats related to ISLAM in this killing.I myself watched the whole incident being the student of the college. That person was schizophrenic and wanted to have revenge and anything can be expected from a schizophrenic and depressed person !!!
@Shah: you forgot to mention what happens with killers after their arrest in USA vs in PAK
I don't know why people link every killing with MULLAH and ISLAM. KHURRAM " The person who killed VICE PRINCIPAL " was a mentally sick person and have been under treatment and this can be expected from a mentally ill person. I don't think so there are some ISLAMIC ISSUES in this killing.
for God sake every1 this has nothing to do with country politics and militancy... this is totaly seaprate case and scenario.. i'm a student of this very institute....
Clearly (and as explained by many students of RIU) the shooter was mentally ill. May ALLAH bless the soul of the departed. My question as a young mother is to the parents of the shooter: "Why the hell was he not in Rehab or getting treated? Was his getting a degree more important than his health and the well being of others? Go and answer these questions to the family of the one who has lost his life....you as parents are to blame...completely, without a doubt"
One should accept the news for what it is and not see shadows and goblins where none exist.
this has nothing to do with extremism. he was not a terrorist . in USA and other countries this kind of things also happen . so those blaming system for this are also depressed peoples .
@Born Again Pakistani:
Whom to blame for killing of half a million people in Iraq without UN mandate. Please give me any clue about weapons of mass destruction???????????????????????.
By the way why is it so that every looter, plunderer and money launderer finds heaven in Swiss Accounts. Please shed some scholarly light. If we just put some good sanctions on Swiss Banks, billions of dollors of poor men and women can be saved.
@Sameer: Because it is the failure of a nation.
@Sameer: Very good assessment... we are like a cancer patient in denial... When doctor told him that you have cancer they thought doctor wants to make money and hence rejected his advice and when symptoms became apparent instead of accepting cancer we blame the doctor for wrong treatment till the day he miserably dies and then his family says... He was fine with no problems till the doctor made a wrong prescription and all went down hill.... We will never accept the problems within till and after it all ends.
@MUNIB: people need some one to blame... no matter what happens we know how to blame our selves.... these kinds of cases happen in America like after every six months but they are not doing any thing wrong .... we are the ones who should be highlighted. try to be a patriotic some time... you will feel good
I don't think anyone is to be blamed here...not the state, not mullahs. The only blame should go to the parents for not providing this guy, who obviously had mental problems, with treatment.
@Ahmad Jibran: WOW! and after hearing this we blame only political parties for the woes! we all are extremist. if one condones cold blooded murder as mean to an end then we have it. Educated people resorting to it means society as we dream doesnt exist and this fabric is crumbling fast.
Our colleges are breeding grounds of militancy & criminality, just like our madrassas!
Mullahs are to be blamed for proliferation of arms in the country... every life lost the blood is on their hand.
Y balme game starts abt nation... y we r a failed state or nation....???? selection of people is the main concern.. USe ur vote to change the system...rest will be the history or stay happy with blame game....dumb heads.
I think student was right to do so. Authorities left no space and violence erupts.
think dats nt the fault of student cox i em also the ex student of riphah nd the faculty dair treats us lyk dog no body bothers to ask dat wat probs students r facing on the other hand RIPHAH is taking hign profit through the feeses of students cox they increses dair feeses every year nd in our case wen we did strike against feeses then the VC VP DEAN expelled all the students of 7th semester cox they involved in strike nd on the ther hand they canceled all the scolarships nd made a huge fine on students so i em sure that tere must be som fault of the VP cox dmintration dpest nt bother to abuse the family of students also
@Misbah: If you know this student than please elaborate more, since a lot of people might try to question the past of the deceased.
well blame anyone but OURSELVES!!!!! We should realize the fact that these are the signs of decline and instead of preaching our past glories and blame games, we should accept the bitter fact the we are sinking and sinking deeper!!!!!!!!!!
Another reason to have gun control urgently.
3rd world , especially PAK and Arab Muslims LOVE arms bullets etc and more than that love showing their intentions . . . its just our culture for past 1400 years
check this recent pic from KHI : http://tinyurl.com/3euab4r
also whole KHI was filled with children with plastic guns. When someone is killed , people in PAK tv "glorify" the death on TV under the cover of "martyr" etc
We are not willing to change our mindset but want the whole world to call us "peaceful"
@MUNIB: Totally irrelevant comment. campus shooting is very common in US and other western countries with no militancy links. Please also advise them the root causes there based on your investigating and intriguing brain which has the capability of jumping to the conclusion in a fraction of hour.
Besides, he was trying to pass final year for quite a few years now. He was told to get treated first, then appear in the exam. He even did not have the required percentage of attendance to appear in the exam. May VP's soul R.I.P
The time to repent- what we have done in Pakistan during last 64 years? In every aspects of life, be a politician, bureaucrat, army man, businessman, teacher, professional, students or commoner just analyse ourselves what we did for our country, religion and humanity in our capacity and try to straighten it up if found something wrong. Its never late. May Allah forgive the Pakistani nation.
Sad News!!! bt not first of its nature.....
Strange how come student carry pistol in the campus and then shoot his own vice principal. We all differ with each other that does not mean u start killing people! May God rest his soul in peace,(Ameen)
Time is not far off when we will have scanners in all the schools, colleges and universities at the entry points. We are muslims we offer our prayers under police escort. The nation must wake up from slumber before it is too late
I was reading something like this a few years back in the US called the "don't know what" massacre. No one blamed any of the students back then (who were the victim of constant bullying). They even killed themselves in the end. This is not the real face of our country and me being an ex-student myself can understand how the people in power just love to abuse it. Don't mean to say it but if investigated deeper you cannot clap with one hand only. My class fellow was dropped from the university in the last and final semester just because he didn't get down and lick the teacher's shoes!
This happens when something went wrong with students, but we have to also accept that this i wrong may be student is mentally ill or got less marks from their teachers. But there are some cases like Punjab University Professor attempting rapes on students and have an bed room in their office for these purposes. This news was on news channels with such hype but suddenly it came down and what happened next nothing. If these kinds of cases will not handled carefully then things like this will happen.
May his soul rest in peace. Aameen
They showed the guy on TV, i think he was either clean shaven or perhaps with mustaches. seemed to be fitting the bill of a perfect College Politics Ghunda.
That's just like what happens in American schools every now and then. Pakistan is becoming Americanized.
surely we are a failed state
Come on liberals! Blame it on the Islamists! Label him an Islamic Militant! I am sure the ISPR would declare him YET ANOTHER al qaeda leader!
The seeds of militancy and the language of bullet which PAK establishment promoted since last 3 decades , is finally showing its colors
The seeds of "militantcy" and the language of "bullet" which PAK establishment promoted its coming back home now
OMG!!!!! I cannot imagine what happened a while ago! Waiting anxiously to know details... May Allah bless principal soul if his deeds were worth it...
Very sad news.
shame
What is happening to the country? Have the people lost their sense of decency and values?
