Undaunted septuagenarian dares robbers looting watermelon stall at the cost of life

An elderly citizen among two was killed while three persons were injured in different firing incidents in district central on Thursday raising the total number of killings to 51 during the past three months of the year.

According to police, 22-year-old Sila Yasin was sitting outside his house in New Karachi Sector 5E when motorcycle riding street criminals snatched his mobile phone.

The victim offered resistance on which armed me opened fire on Yasin injuring him seriously. One bullet hit him in the shoulder and the other in the leg.

The robbers were escaping after the incident when people chased them. Meanwhile, at some distance near Power House Roundabout, the bandits opened fire on the pursuers. As a result, 32-year-old Amir was injured by a bullet on his chest and died. At the same time, a 22-year-old passerby named Shahid was also injured by a bullet on his back. Bilal Colony police were investigating the incident.

During another robbery, armed suspects shot 70-old Hamid Ali in the stomach near Shadman Town's Anda Mor. He was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital in critical condition, but he died on the way.

Heavy contingents of police reached the spot and called the crime scene unit to collect evidence. A person who was with the deceased said that the bandits were robbing a watermelon seller at Anda Mor when Hamid Ali resisted, upon which the robbers opened fire and killed him.

He was a resident of North Karachi Sector 7/D4 Nazish Apartment and a father of three children. He was at the forefront of helping people.

Prior to this incident, robbers shot and injured 21-year-old Abdul Rehman on resistance during a robbery near Sakhi Hasan graveyard within Sharah-e-Noor Jahan police station limits. He was shot in the neck.

DIG West Zone Irfan Baloch said that the police are investigating both the incidents, and trying to obtain the CCTV footage.

In response to a question, he said that the police have busted 25 gangs of robbers during a week, while two street criminals have been killed and 31 have been arrested in injured condition. He expressed hope that the killers involved in the incident would be traced and arrested soon.
