Torkham border closed after FIA-FC clash

Sources say FIA and FC personnel accused each other of interfering in their work

The Torkham border crossing between Pakistan and Afghanistan was closed briefly after a clash between the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and the Frontier Corps personnel posted there, sources said on Sunday.

They said that the FIA and FC personnel accused each other of interfering in their work. During the clash, they exchanged blows, leading to injuring to 13 officials – five them from the FIA – who were taken to a hospital in Landi Kotal.

The clash occurred in the Immigration Section at Zero Point on the border. The FC men held the view that border protection was their domain, therefore, they would check documents of the passengers. The FIA staff, however, said that the FC men had no work inside the Immigration Section.

Because of the clash, the Torkham border crossing was closed for all types of traffic. The border crossing reopened for pedestrian traffic after four hours. Hospital sources said that the injured peope were out of danger.
