From perspex heels to green sherwanis, PSL fashion culminates in the finale

When it comes to style on the sidelines, these commentators are hitting it out of the park

KARACHI:

As the electrifying ninth edition of the Pakistan Super League called it a wrap on Monday, it's not just the players who caught the audience's attention. This season, sports commentators stepped up their style game, setting new trends with their fashion-forward looks.

From soft hues of pink and white and asymmetrical motifs to green sherwanis nodding at the stadium’s intensifying frenzy of patriotism and adrenaline, commentators have been making waves with their sartorial choices, bringing a touch of glamour to the sidelines.

Erin Holland

Leading the pack is Pakistan’s top contender for our favourite commentator and Australian: Erin Holland. Few happenings unite the nation and one of them is easily a heartfelt appreciation for foreign women donning desi wear. Draped in a tea-pink full-length kameez paired with wide-legged pants boasting adorned hems, the 34-year-old was in the limelight of both cricket and fashion enthusiasts.

A rhinestone and bead-studded neckline, coupled with a delicate pastel floral motif, infused just the right hint of romance into her look. Credit goes to the designer and the muse, for Erin managed to sneak in a whole new spring season in intricate detailing along the slim-fit sleeves and the side vents without appearing too on the nose. A sheer dupatta with oversized floral patchwork brought a final flourish to her ensemble. With softly curled locks framing her face, a touch of soft pink lipstick, and a dewy blush, Erin’s look was the talk of the PSL town.

Zainab Abbas

Zainab, whose bold-coloured blazers must be the envy of every ambitious wardrobe, returned to PSL 9 with a balanced stylebook. Effortlessly switching between a Pakistani knack for threadwork and glittering jewels and Western cuts and flairs, the 36-year-old makes no secret of her love for fashion.

Spotted once in a citrusy burst of orange, yellow and green knee-length kameez and trousers, Zainab swapped the colours for a monochrome palette for the grand finale of the cricket season. Posing gracefully beside the Orion Trophy, she donned a bone-white straight kurta and trousers ensemble. Delicate lace detailing on the collar and sporadic floral appliques running along its length elevated the simplicity of the attire and added depth. A neat ponytail, paired with nude strappy clear heels and soft pink lipstick, completed her poised and polished look.

Urooj Mumtaz

Not to be outdone, Urooj stepped into the spotlight in an elegant pine green kurta and trousers ensemble, featuring intricate white embroidered vines adorning the cuffs of the straight sleeves. The pattern delicately framed the neckline, lending a touch of timeless grace.

The crown of her style goes to the fashion darling of 2024 and PSL: perspex heels. After Zainab, the 38-year-old followed suit with clear, cylindrical heels. With her hair styled in a chic half-open manner, Urooj’s glitz on the green field was hard to rival.

As for the men

While the PSL continues to captivate audiences around the globe, one thing is for sure – when it comes to style on the sidelines, these commentators are hitting it out of the park. While men, as per usual, did not border daring with cut or colour, the PSL final ushered in a pleasant surprise. Waqar Younis, Mark Butcher, Ramiz Raja and Michael Clark showed up to the tournament’s climax in matching green sherwanis and white trousers.

Accentuating the selfsame fashion exhibit, all sherwanis sported the PSL emblem. While the women commentators are paying attention to every detail, one can only hope men will jump on the bandwagon, if only to further liven up an energetic few weeks of cricket fever.
