Cops booked for ‘shooting at bailiff’

BUREWALA:

Four police officials, including a Station House Officer (SHO), were booked for allegedly manhandling and opening fire on a bailiff and his team who visited Karampur Police to recover three illegally-detained citizens.

According to official sources, a citizen named Sajjad Shah approached the Lahore High Court Multan Bench for the recovery of the illegally-detained Azhar Shah from Karampur Police Station. The LHC Multan Bench deputed a bailiff for the recovery of the detained citizen. Police officials including SHO Nasir Mahmood allegedly manhandled the bailiff and his team, while another two officials allegedly opened fire to frighten the bailiff. 

The Bailiff reported the incident to the LHC Multan Bench, which took stern notice and directed high-ranking police officers to appear before the court. 

Meanwhile, police launched an inquiry into the incident and registered a case against the four police officials under provisions 7ATA, 343 and 324 of PPC. Similarly, SHO Nasir Mahmood and ASI Muhammad Idrees were arrested, however the other two officials Saeed Ahmed and Rana Tanvir remain at large.
