Three minor siblings killed in roof collapse in Lahore

LAHORE:

Three minor siblings lost their lives in an incident of roof collapse near the Hamdard Hall Building on Lahore’s Lytton Road on Saturday.

The collapse occurred suddenly, trapping the children under the debris. The people nearby rushed to their aid and called the emergency service. Rescue teams arrived at the scene to assist in the rescue operation.

Despite the efforts of the rescuers, the victims, identified as Kainat, 11, Bisma, 9, and Hasnain 7 suffered critical injuries. They were evacuated, with two of them being rushed to Lahore Mayo Hospital and one to Lahore Services Hospital.

The injuries proved fatal and all three siblings succumbed to their wounds during treatment.

The roof of the dilapidated structure was constructed with wooden beams and mud.

Roof collapses have been a recurring concern in Lahore, with several incidents reported in recent years.

Often, these incidents occur due to the compromised condition of roofs.

Authorities responded, with Rescue 1122 mobilising six vehicles for the rescue operation.

Police also rushed to the scene to maintain law and order, deploying extra traffic wardens to clear the road and facilitate emergency response efforts.

Last year, in August, an infant lost its life and five others were injured in a roof collapse near DHA Phase 8.

Similarly, in July 2021, a family tragedy unfolded in Wasanpura, Shadbagh, claiming six lives as the roof of their house collapsed during construction on the first floor.
