Pakistani scriptwriter and satirist Anwar Maqsood has spoken out against rumours circulating about his alleged abduction and assault. In a video statement released recently, the veteran artist vehemently denied all claims, reassuring his loved ones and admirers that he is safe and unharmed.
The video, shared widely across social media platforms, features Maqsood addressing the speculation surrounding his well-being. He expressed gratitude for the concern shown by his fans and acquaintances but emphasised that the reports of his abduction were entirely false.
"My name is Anwar Maqsood. I know all of you, and perhaps, you know me," Maqsood began. "In the past few days, certain news was circulating that made my life a living hell. I have admirers all over the world. I received a call from every city, every country asking how I am. I'm perfectly fine. Whatever you're hearing has not happened, nor will it happen."
Maqsood, 84, dismissed the notion of being subjected to physical harm, citing his age as a reason why such an event would be implausible. "I am 84 years old. I won't survive after a slap. How could I be subjected to a heavy beating? It didn't happen. I am fine," he asserted. Maqsood added, "I've been writing, speaking for you all for 66 years. I love our soldiers who are at the borders giving up their lives for us. I'm not being coerced to say this. I'm saying this from my heart."
Addressing the spread of misinformation, Maqsood highlighted the proliferation of fake social media accounts bearing his name and image. He showcased his old phone, lacking a camera, and emphasised his inability to engage in social media activity. He stated, "This is the phone I have. It doesn't even have a camera. How will I tweet? There are countless accounts with my picture, which are fake. I've told everyone. I told FIA, the police to have them shut down. They said we cannot do so."
In concluding his statement, Maqsood reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to Pakistan and its people. "Till I am alive, I will keep working for Pakistan and you. Pakistan Zindabad," he declared, underscoring his dedication to his craft and his country.
Maqsood's firm denial and call for an end to panic come amidst heightened concern following the spread of baseless rumours regarding his safety. As the beloved figure reassures his audience of his well-being, his words serve as a reminder of the importance of verifying information and exercising caution in the age of digital media.
