President Asif Ali Zardari has stirred controversy by nominating his youngest daughter, Aseefa Bhutto, as the country's first lady. The decision has sparked a widespread reaction on the internet, with many questioning the traditional norms surrounding the role. Some legal experts, when contacted, confirmed that the president holds the authority to confer the title upon any female member of his family. They said no legal barriers are preventing such an appointment.
However, for others, Aseefa’s appointment as the position of first lady, a role that has historically been reserved for the wives of presidents or prime ministers, has generated hype for entirely different reasons.
Clad in a plain white dupatta, styled in signature Benazir Bhutto draping, a collage of the mother-daughter duo is making rounds on the internet with many claiming an uncanny resemblance. In both pictures, Benazir and Aseefa have paired up their dupattas with green kurtas, further bolstering the similarity.
Uncanny resemblance
Taking to microblogging platform X, formerly Twitter, one user shared the collage of Benazir and Aseefa’s pictures and stated, “Aseefa Bhutto Zardari at her father's swearing-in ceremony, an absolute mirror image of her mother.” In another post, the first lady can be seen accompanied by other political representatives to which the internet user penned, “Aseefa is Benazir.”

Others followed in vain to draw parallels between the mother and daughter after seeing Aseefa at father and President Zardari’s oath-taking ceremony. “Getting flashbacks of Benazir when she first became PM,” remarked one X post, sharing Aseefa’s picture. Another joyously expressed, “Aseefa gives peak Benazir, and that's why I love her even more!”
