Ekta Kapoor set to remake Yumna, Wahaj-starrer 'Tere Bin', Indian media reports

Rumour has it that renowned director has joined forces with Colors TV to bring her rendition to screen

Much to the joy of many and helmed by no other than the acclaimed Indian TV producer and director Ekta Kapoor, Pakistani drama Tere Bin is set to have an Indian remake soon. The blockbuster series, originally starring Wahaj Ali and Yumna Zaidi, garnered widespread acclaim in Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, and beyond.

According to Indian media reports, Ekta has joined forces with Colors TV, a prominent Indian channel, to bring the compelling narrative to the Indian audience. Reports suggest that actors Kanika Mann and Ayesha Singh are under consideration for the lead roles in the adaptation.

Ekta, whose melodramatic flair in production and direction has become a staple of Indian drama serials, has heightened anticipation as to what Tere Bin’s Indian remake would look like. For all the changes that must be made, the Indian rendition is expected to retain the original title. The drama is slated to make its television debut in July 2024.

Becoming a major of the year 2023, Yumna and Wahaj’s popular offering landed itself in hot waters over an 'unnecessary plot twist' the same year. In episode 46 of the popular drama, we see Ali's character, Murtasim, apparently forcing himself on his wife Meerab (Zaidi) as the credits roll. Moreover, in the promo for an upcoming week's episode, it's implied that Tere Bin would include the theme of marital rape. The said sudden change in a fan-favourite character sent shockwaves through the fanbase of the drama serial.

Many called out the show and its writer for the unnecessary downfall of Murtasim's character arc. However, the latter opened up about the criticism.

“It’s a situation which was the demand of the serial that will lead to the climax,” Nooran Makhdoom, the writer of Tere Bin, said in an interview with Arab News. “If the audience isn’t getting it, I can’t change it,” she continued. “It’s just a drama. They should wait for the entire story to unfold instead of taking issue with every episode.”

The writer went on to add that neither the content team nor the production house objected to the new storyline. “It’s not like this has happened onscreen for the first time,” she added. “It’s just that this project has received such wide recognition that people reacted strongly to the recent twist.”
