Tarar to chair legal reforms committee

Senator Tarar officially assumed charge as the law minister on Tuesday

ISLAMABAD:

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has constituted an eight-member legal reforms committee, which will be chaired by Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazeer Tarar.

Other members of the committee include Senator Ishaq Dar, Shahid Hamid, Zahid Hamid, Makhdoom Ali Khan, Attorney General for Pakistan Mansoor Awan, SCBA President Shahzad Shaukat and PBC member Muhammad Ahsan Bhoon.

Tarar officially assumed charge as the law minister on Tuesday. He was warmly welcomed by all high officials within the ministry as he embarked on his new role.

The law minister reiterated his unwavering commitment to serving the nation and improving the law and justice system in Pakistan. He emphasised the importance of upholding the rule of law, ensuring justice for all, and promoting transparency and accountability within the legal framework.

He said the prime minister had taken notice of delays in dispensation of justice in criminal and civil matters. Reforms are imperative across criminal, civil, fiscal and constitutional domains to streamline legal processes and to ensure swift and speedy justice.

As Tarar begins his tenure, he eagerly anticipates collaborating to enhance access to justice, safeguard human rights, and strengthen the foundations of democracy in the country.
