Police claimed on Wednesday that they have arrested a young man for groping a woman in North Karachi. Sir Syed police station SHO Imam Bakhsh Lashari identified the suspect as Azhar, son of Akhlaq, who was caught “red-handed” with the help of vigilant local community.
According to SHO Lashari, Azhar had inappropriately touched a woman recently and returned to the same area on Wednesday clad in the same dress - a jacket and a P-cap - with the intention to harass more women. However, some locals recognised him from a CCTV video circulating on social media and alerted the neighbours.

The local youth quickly cornered the suspect with their motorbikes. After a brief confrontation and questioning, they subjected the suspect to mob justice before informing the local police. The law enforcers arrived at the scene and took Azhar into custody.
SHO Lashari revealed that the suspect, a New Karachi resident employed at a tailoring shop, has a history of engaging in lewd acts with passersby, a video of which had gone viral on social media. Two cases have been registered against him at Sir Syed police station, with more cases under consideration in other police stations, including New Karachi. During the investigation, Azhar confessed to his criminal activities, establishing him as a habitual offender. Police are currently obtaining details of cases registered against him in other police stations.
