SOP, Legends Arena join hands to enhance access to sports

Squash legend Jahangir Khan and Ronak Lakhani sign the historic MoU

In a landmark move, Special Olympics Pakistan (SOP) and Legends Arena on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote inclusivity and accessibility in sports.

The MoU was signed by the legendary squash player Jahangir Khan, who is Chairperson Legends Arena, and Ms. Ronak Lakhani, Chairperson Special Olympics Pakistan, symbolizing a commitment to providing unparalleled opportunities for individuals with intellectual disabilities.

Under this partnership, Special Olympics Pakistan athletes and members will gain access to the state-of-the-art facilities offered by Legends Arena, Karachi's premier destination for sports and entertainment. These facilities include futsal, padel courts, cricket, and jogging track, providing a diverse range of options for athletes and enthusiasts alike.

"We are thrilled to partner with Special Olympics Pakistan in their mission to promote sports and empower individuals with intellectual disabilities," remarked Jahangir Khan, Chairman Legends Arena. "By opening our doors to SOP athletes, we aim to create an environment where everyone feels welcome and can excel in their respective sports."

"This collaboration signifies our dedication to fostering an inclusive society where individuals of all abilities have equal access to sports and recreational activities," said Ms Ronak Lakhani, Chairperson of Special Olympics Pakistan. "Legends Arena's world-class facilities will empower our athletes to pursue their passions and showcase their talents on a broader platform."

In attendance at this momentous event were leading Legends Arena officials including CEO Talal Shah Khan, COO Saud Ahmed and CMO Yousuf Ghaznavi while prominent SOP officials Farkhanda Jabeen (National Sports Director), Taha Tahir (National Director), Jasmine Sharif (Athlete Leader and SOP Board Member), and Muhammad Affan, (Athlete Leader) from were also present, underscoring the collective commitment towards promoting inclusion and diversity in sports. 

This collaboration between Special Olympics Pakistan and Legends Arena represents a significant step forward in advancing the rights and opportunities of individuals with intellectual disabilities, fostering a culture of acceptance and inclusion within the sports community.
