Actor's brother converted to Islam at the age of 17

Bollywood actor Vikrant Massey, celebrated for his recent film 12th Fail, has candidly shared insights into his diverse family background in a recent episode of Unfiltered by Samdish. The actor, known for his versatile performances, discussed growing up in a household where various religious beliefs coexisted harmoniously.

Vikrant comes from a unique family dynamic, with a Sikh mother, a Christian father, a brother who converted to Islam, and a Hindu wife. The actor revealed in the interview, "From a young age, I have seen a lot of arguments related to religion and spirituality."

The star shared the remarkable story of his elder brother's decision to convert to Islam at the age of 17. Vikrant emphasised that his family wholeheartedly supported his brother's choice.“My brother’s name is Moeen, I am called Vikrant. You’d wonder why the name Moeen? He converted to Islam, my family let him change his religion. They said, ‘Beta, if you find satisfaction in this, then go ahead.’ He converted at the age of 17, it is a big step. My mother is Sikhni, my father is a church-going Christian, he goes to church twice a week. From a young age, I have seen a lot of arguments related to religion and spirituality.”

Despite facing questions from extended relatives about his brother's conversion, Vikrant lauded his father's response. He shared, “My father was questioned by my extended relatives about how he could ‘allow’ that (brother’s conversion). He said that was none of their business. ‘He is my son, he is only answerable to me and has all the rights to choose what he wants.’" This incident prompted Vikrant's exploration into the nature of religion.

Vikrant's family exemplifies religious tolerance and acceptance. He highlighted the harmonious blend of practices within his household, sharing, "My father goes to church twice a week, but he also does puja with my mother and my wife. So, it is a beautiful house." 

The actor's narrative sheds light on the importance of embracing diversity within families and respecting individual choices regarding faith. Vikrant's story reflects a harmonious coexistence of various religious practices, fostering an environment of understanding and acceptance. As he continues to make waves in the film industry, Vikrant's openness about his family's unique background adds a layer of depth to his public persona.
