Ranveer Singh, Johnny Sins’ sexual awareness ad is a ‘slap’ on Indian dramas, says Indian TV actor

Rashami Desai took to IG to criticise the ad for mocking the Indian television industry

In a surprising turn of events, Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh has sparked controversy with his recent collaboration on an advertisement alongside adult film star Johnny Sins. The commercial, serving as a parody of Hindi serials with dramatic dialogue and sound effects, has garnered attention, but not all responses have been positive.

Television actor Rashami Desai, known for her role in the Hindi television show Uttaran, expressed her displeasure with the collaboration through her Instagram stories. She called the collaboration the "most unexpected collab" and criticised the ad for mocking the Indian television industry.

"I started my work in a regional film industry and then started working in the television industry. People call it a small screen where normal people watch the news, cricket, all the Bollywood films too and much more. After watching this reel, which is highly unexpected, I feel it's a humiliation to all the TV industry and people who work in television," Rashami wrote, sharing her thoughts on the unexpected turn of events.

She furthered on, “We are always made to feel smaller...Actors really want to work on the big screen too [but] this is exactly how we are treated. Everyone is working hard. But I’m sorry, TV shows don’t show all that.”

“This all happens on big screen. And nothing wrong in showing some reality but this is a reality check for the TV industry because I feel it's a slap. Maybe I'm overreacting. But we have shown culture and love to our audience. And I'm hurt because I've [had a] respectful journey in the TV industry. Hope you will understand the emotion,” Rashami capped her note with the hashtag #msorryfornotbeingsorry.

Ranveer posted the controversial commercial on his Instagram on Monday, drawing praise from fellow actors. Nakuul Mehta, impressed, commented, “Aceing my day job and how!”, while Karan Kundrra wrote, “Hahahahahhaah killed it.”

Despite the criticism from Rashami Desai, other celebrities including Arjun Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Vikrant Massey, and more showered Ranveer with encouraging comments. The collaboration between Ranveer Singh and Johnny Sins serves as an endorsement for a sexual wellness brand, featuring content written by Tanmay Bhat, Vishal Dayama, Devaiah Bopanna, Puneet Chadha, and Deep Joshi.
