CM Sindh orders inquiry into BIEK first-year exam result

Inquiry committee directed to submit report within 15 days over alleged manipulation

KARACHI:

Caretaker Sindh Chief Minister Justice (retd) Maqbool Baqar has constituted a fact-finding inquiry committee to probe into the alleged manipulation of Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) results causing an abrupt decline in the passing percentage of students of Class-XI.

The fact-finding committee shall comprise VC NED Dr Sarosh Lodhi (convener), Executive Director IBA Karachi Dr Akbar Zaidi, Secretary HEC Moinuddin Siddiqui and co-opt members.

The committee would probe into the matter regarding the alleged manipulation of results.and would also fix responsibilities against delinquent officers/officials involved, if any, and propose recommendations in this regard.

The committee has been instructed to submit its report within 15 days.

The fate of thousands of students hangs in the balance after the announcement of the allegedly disputed results. Over the past two weeks, students and parents have taken to the streets in protest after a majority of students failed in the BIEK's first-year results. The top officials in Sindh seem to be at odds over the contentious results.

Governor Kamran Tessori expressed his concern over the issue, stating, it is alarming that 64% of Karachi's students have failed in intermediate first-year exams. He argued that even if the results are corrected, the negative impact would spread.

The results have revealed that 80% of candidates failed in Inter Arts Group first year (regular), 72% candidates failed in Inter Arts Group first year (private), and 63% candidates failed in commerce first year (private).
