Hindu marriage registration to begin

Relevant depts instructed to finalise rules in a month

LAHORE:

National Commission for Human Rights Punjab Member Nadeem Ashraf conducted a hearing after taking sup motu notice of lack of registration of Hindu marriages and issued notices to the heads of the relevant departments.

Provincial Local Government Additional Secretary Muhammad Sajid Bashir and Human Rights and Minority Affairs Deputy Secretary Ayesha Pasin said during the hearing that the rules of the Hindu Marriage Act 2017 were being prepared, after which the process of Hindu marriage registration would be started.

The commission member directed the departments concerned to complete the preparation of the rules by the end of February.

He said the move would fulfill a long-standing demand of the Hindu community and they would get the fundamental right of marriage registration.

The process of registration of children will also start, which is a basic right of every citizen, an official statement added.
