KARACHI:

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi Ameer Engr Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has demanded of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to ensure peace and order in Karachi instead of writing letters to local government representatives and taking other cosmetic measures.

Addressing a press conference on Monday, the JI leader said that a party worker of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement has been killed in Karachi during an armed clash with the rival PPP, whereas a worker of the Pakistan People Party sustained injuries.

He said that armed groups have been roaming around freely, whereas the ECP and law enforcement agencies are nowhere seen.

He said that a tense environment is being created in the city days ahead of the general elections in order to manipulate the affairs pertaining to polls. It is an attempt to reduce the turnout on the polling day, he said.

The JI leader said, Karachi cannot sustain law and order issues any more. He demanded an impartial enquiry into the clash between the MQM and PPP.

The JI leader said that the political convention at Bag-e-Jinnah has established the political direction of the mega city. The JI will not tolerate any attempt to rig the polls.

About failure of intermediate first year students in the annual exams, the JI Karachi Ameer asked the affected students to submit their complains at the JI's website.

He said that the JI has been in touch with the Sindh chief minister and a committee is expected to be established soon in order to provide relief to the affected students. He made it clear that the JI will march to the Chief Minister House if demands are not met.

The JI leader expressed his gratitude for Karachiites over their overwhelming response to the call for participation in the Karachi Declaration Convention.

JI leaders including Osama Razai, Muslim Pervez, Raja Arif Sultan and others were also present at the press conference.

Earlier on Sunday night, the JI showed an unprecedented power in Karachi during the Karachi Declaration Convention at Bag-e-Jinnah.

JI Pakistan Ameer Sirajul Haq said that 76 years of the nation have already been spoilt by the ruling elites as Pakistan and Pakistanis have been suffering because of all sort of crises despite the fact that the motherland has been blessed with a lot of resources.

He said that the ruling dynasties, imposed on Pakistan, have failed the country and brought her to the prevailing situation. He said that the nation is done with the same faces and same tactics used against it again and again.

The JI leader said that the nation has set out on a voyage of discovery for a secure future and there is no room for the traditional political dynasties.
