The Sindh High Court (SHC) has intervened to prevent the arrest of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Sindh President, Haleem Adil Shaikh, in additional cases following a petition filed against his arrest in multiple instances.
A two-member bench, led by Justice Naimatullah Phulpoto, heard the petition and noted that according to a police report dated November 2, 2023, Haleem Adil Sheikh is implicated in 21 cases.
Previously, the petitioner's father was also shielded from arrest without court permission.
During the hearing, Justice Naimatullah Phulpoto raised concerns, questioning the total number of cases registered against Haleem Adil Shaikh. The Additional Advocate General informed the court that a total of 21 cases had been filed against him.
Petitioner's lawyer, Anwar Mansoor Khan, expressed dismay, stating that the court had thrice prohibited Haleem Adil Shaikh's arrest in new cases.
He highlighted a pattern where his client secures bail in one case only to be arrested in another. Expressing concern over the situation, Khan emphasised the need for the court's intervention, questioning the adherence to legal safeguards such as Article 9 and 10 that are designed to protect individuals. Advocate Raj Wahid Kanwar pointed out similar sentiments, pointing out that court orders were being disregarded.
