LAHORE:

With an intense cold wave and dense fog gripping the whole of Punjab, a spokesman for the Provincial Disaster Management Authority warned on Wednesday that the next three days were also likely to be dry and chilly.

A prolonged dry spell during the winter has resulted in an increasing number of patients of pneumonia, fever, cough and cold. Health experts advised citizens to avoid cold weather and cover their head and chest. From Thursday to Sunday, the weather in and around Murree is predicted to be cold, dry and snowy.

The maximum temperature in most of the cities of Punjab will be around 12 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature in the hilly areas minus one degree.

Relief Commissioner Nabil Javed stated that 13 facilitation centres had been established in Murree for tourists. He recommended that travelers check the weather before traveling.

The Met Department said the winter was at its peak and frigid winds would cause the mercury to drop.

It predicted that the fog would be heavier next week.

The number of children suffering from pneumonia kept rising as a result of the dry weather and smog, with 190 new cases reported.

The fresh cases included 75 reported in Lahore, according to the health department.
