ISLAMABAD:

Authorities in the federal capital asked four universities to shut down on Monday citing security concerns and a threat alert issued by security agencies.

During the early hours of Monday, security forces also conducted search operations in the suburbs of Islamabad, however no arrests were made.

The threat alert indicated an attack by a proscribed organisation. Following the closure, the students and parents were informed.

It is expected that the universities will remain closed for a few more days. A video message by Islamabad Police Inspector-General (IGP) Dr Akbar Nasir Khan stated that the situation is “under control” and peaceful in Islamabad and asked not to pay heed to rumours regarding the serious situation.
