KHANEWAL:

Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) President Aleem Khan on Sunday pledged to address the problems faced by the people living in PP-209 Khanewal, one of the constituencies from where he was contesting the upcoming general elections.

Speaking to the media and then an activists’ convention in the Khanewal constituency, Aleem vowed to remove the deprivations of the area’s residents if he won the polls there.

Pointing out that his mother belonged to the area, he promised to provide free electricity to the consumers using up to 300 units.

The IPP leader further claimed that farmers with lands up to 12 acres would not be charged for using electricity.

He said his party would focus on schools and roads in the area and would not abandon it after the elections.

Aleem stressed the need for a strong government in the country, adding that whichever party came into power in the upcoming elections, it should adopt the “ideal” manifesto of the IPP.

The IPP leader said he was personally not in favour of stripping a political party of its right to contest the polls, referring to the PTI.

Talking about the May 9 riots last year following the arrest of PTI’s founding chairman Imran Khan, Aleem said the country’s martyrs were their red line and those who desecrated their memorials could not be forgiven.

“They [rioters and those involved in vandalism] should be brought to justice through the legal process,” he added.

Speaking about his former party the PTI, the IPP leader said a lot of effort went into making its founding chairman the premier of the country.

He continued that he had hoped that a new era of prosperity would begin with the PTI’s “Naya Pakistan” but regretted that this could not materialise.

“What happened during PTI’s four years in power dashed all hopes,” he added.

Aleem claimed that the rates were “fixed” for anybody desiring to become a minister, adviser, commissioner, deputy commissioner or even a patwari.

He further maintained that unfortunately, a share of money went to the PM’s House.

The IPP leader further said that for four years, there was a government without any direction.

Aleem said there was a lot of potential in the country but it had not found a leader, adding that the nation should still not lose hope.

He added that 70% of the country comprised of young people full of potential and what it needed was a competent and honest leadership.

The IPP leader said the people felt hopeless because they could not see a way out to prosperity, adding that his party would strive to convert the country into one of the top nations of the world.

Aleem pointed out that there was no shortage in Pakistan.

“No one [other country] has mountains, seas and deserts,” he continued.

The IPP leader claimed that a lot of thought had been given to the general public in his party’s programme and manifesto.

On the occasion, former PP-209 MPA Pir Jameel Shah announced joining the IPP and expressed his full support to Aleem in the constituency.
