The caretaker Sindh government has issued directives to industrialists, urging them to ensure the online disbursement of salaries for industrial workers, along with the strict implementation of labour rights and relevant laws and regulations.
The Sindh Provincial Steering Committee for Business and Human Rights convened in Karachi on Friday, with caretaker Sindh Minister for Law and Human Rights, Muhammad Omar Soomro, presiding over the meeting.
The committee emphasised the need to eradicate forced or voluntary labour, child labour, and discriminatory practices based on gender, colour, and creed within the workplaces.
Minister Umar Soomro directed the departments of labour and Industry to ensure compliance with the law by facilitating online salary payments for workers in industries and factories.
"The move aims to enhance transparency and accountability in wage disbursements, ensuring that workers receive the government-mandated wages", he said.
He said that a strict action will be taken against those who fail to adhere to the prescribed regulations.
Industries secretary, Rashid Ahmad Solangi, revealed that although the law mandates industrialists in Sindh to deposit workers' salaries directly into their bank accounts, non-compliance was widespread among industrialists.
SHRC Chairman, Iqbal Ahmed Detho, informed the meeting about complaints received from various locations, citing instances where workers were not receiving the stipulated minimum wages.
The Commission has issued notices to several industries and institutions in this regard.
The meeting was attended by Human Rights Secretary Tahseen Fatima, Industries Secretary Rashid Solangi, Sindh Human Rights Commission Chairman, Iqbal Ahmed Detho.
