Saudi FM, DP World chief call on PM in Davos

DAVOS:

Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar met with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah on the sidelines of the 54th annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) and discussed with him the regional developments.

During the meeting, the prime minister underlined the strategic importance of the close brotherly relations between Pakistan and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia rooted in common cultural heritage and shared interests.

Prime Minister Kakar noted that the Pakistan-Saudi Arabia relations were a factor of regional stability. He said Pakistan desired to deepen bilateral engagement through trade, investment, and people-to-people exchanges.

The prime minister also witnessed the signing of the Inter-Governmental Framework Agreements between the ministries of communications, railways, and maritime affairs of Pakistan and the government of Dubai, represented by the DP World.

The agreements cover potential opportunities in Pakistan for the development of a dedicated freight corridor, multi-modal logistics park, and rail freight terminals on Pakistan’s railway network, as well as, the development of coastal economic zone and dredging works of navigation channels at Port Qasim.

The ceremony was held after a meeting between Prime Minister Kakar and Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, the group chairman of the DP World – a multinational logistics company.

Kakar welcomed DP World’s interest in expanding its Pakistan business and assured continued support of the Pakistan government.
“Pakistan will continue to facilitate partner enterprises to realise its geo-economic vision as a hub of commerce and industry,” he said.

He expressed satisfaction at the growth of exchanges, interaction and cooperation between businesses in Pakistan and the UAE and highlighted their transformative potential.
