Ali Zafar gives his seal of approval to Bollywood’s rendition of ‘Jhoom’

‘Dil Jhoom’ was released on January 15 on all streaming platforms

For all anticipating, Bollywood’s spin on Pakistani singer Ali Zafar’s hit song, Jhoom, is finally out. Featured in the upcoming Bollywood film, Crakk, the rendition sees Indian renowned singer Shreya Ghoshal join hands with composer Vishal Mishra. Helmed by the giant music label T-Series, Dil Jhoom is out on all streaming platforms.

While fans on both sides of the border offered their two cents on the new release, the man behind the original seems content with Bollywood’s recreation. Zafar approved of the song in a quote response to a post announcing Dil Jhoom’s release by T-Series on the microblogging platform X (formerly Twitter). “Good stuff. I like it,” complimented the Teefa in Trouble star.

Despite Pakistan and India's frequent cultural exchange, many past attempts at producing covers remain mired in allegations of plagiarism. Recently, Pakistani singer Omer Nadeem claimed his 2009 song, Aey Khuda, had been copied without due credit in T-Series 2023 song Sun Zara, sung by Sonu Nigam and released in collaboration with DJ Sheizwood and Kamaal R Khan (popularly known as KRK).

Notably, Dil Jhoom appears to have heartily complied with all due protocols of crediting original artists and inspirations. Zafar's name appears across promotional materials as well as in the description under YouTube's music video for having "originally written and composed" the song.

Earlier, Ghoshal had taken to X, expressing her deep admiration for Zafar and showering praise on the acclaimed singer for his soulful melodies, specifically highlighting the much-loved track, Jhoom. The singer prefaced her short note with a verse of the song’s chorus, “Dil jhoom jhoom chale jhoom chale sohneya.”

In a post that resonated with her fans, Ghoshal declared herself a 'big fan' of the Pakistani crooner, showcasing her enthusiasm for the upcoming collaboration. “I have always been a big fan of Ali Zafar and the beautiful song Jhoom! It’s very close to my heart and I can’t wait for you all to listen to the song once again as a part of the film Crakk with Vishal Mishra and Tanishk Bagchi. Stay tuned,” the musical artist announced.

Upon hearing the exciting news of his hit song being reimagined, Zafar responded gracefully, welcoming the homage to his musical creation. “Thank you for your kind words, Shreya Ghoshal. You’re one of the most inspiring and iconic singers of our time,” the original voice behind Jhoom penned on X.
