LAHORE:

The Senate Standing Committee on Commerce has directed key agricultural stakeholders, including the National Agriculture Research Centre (NARC), the Ministry of Commerce (MOC) and the provincial governments to collectively formulate a comprehensive plan to support the cultivation of HG1 garlic variety, potentially eliminating the need for the annual import of Rs80 billion worth of garlic. This directive came during a seminar organised by the Agricultural Journalists Association (AJA) where Jafar Ali, Head of the Pakistan Horticulture Development and Export Company (PHDEC) Punjab Region, highlighted their readiness to assist HG1 garlic growers. He underscored PHDEC’s commitment to promoting horticultural products for export and invited growers and relevant companies to propose a plan, offering funding from the Export Development Fund (EDF).
