JCP rules review body okays tweaks draft

Amended rules will be sent to commission for final nod

ISLAMABAD:

The committee formed to review the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) Rules on Friday approved the draft of its amendments.

The next meeting of the body will send the draft of the amended rules to the JCP for its final approval.

The committee held its second meeting presided over by Justice Mansoor Ali Shah.

Supreme Court’s Justice (retd) Manzoor Ahmad Malik also participated in the huddle.

According to a statement, the committee received suggestions from women judges as well as female legal experts.

The body also decided to seek suggestions from Lahore High Court’s woman judge Justice Aalia Neelum,

The participants of the meeting reviewed the rules for appointing judges to constitutional courts.

The rules for convening JCP meetings and proceedings were reviewed as well.

The nomination procedure rules for the appointments to the SC and high courts also came under discussion.

The participants of the meeting further examined the rules for the representation of the district judiciary and bars in the JCP.

They also reviewed the rules for the tenure of additional judges in the high courts.

The establishment of a secretariat for the JCP and the appointment of its secretary and staff were also considered.
