‘Daducha Dam heading towards swift completion’

Minister says work on water project will continue at ‘full speed’

RAWALPINDI:

The Daducha Dam, an indispensable water project for the people of Rawalpindi previously marred by years of delays, is back ‘on track’ with its completion planned in less than two years.

These remarks were made by the provincial Minister for Primary and Secondary Healthcare and Population Welfare Dr Jamal Nasir during his visit to the dam site on Friday, a statement said.

According to the statement, Dr Nasir acknowledged the personal interest shown by caretaker Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi in kick-starting the Daducha Dam project, emphasising its critical importance to the garrison city.

Dr Nasir is the monitoring in-charge of caretaker Punjab CM for all the development projects of Rawalpindi. During his visit to the dam site, he was given a detailed briefing regarding the Daducha Dam. He also made a detailed inspection of the ongoing work on the dam and issued necessary instructions.

While inspecting the ongoing work at the dam site, Dr Nasir expressed optimism about the current momentum and issued practical directives to address any challenges that may arise. He lauded the efforts of the Rawalpindi commissioner for his diligent handling of the land acquisition process, a crucial aspect of the dam’s development.

Highlighting the pivotal role of Daducha Dam in addressing the garrison city’s water needs, Dr Nasir observed that previous obstacles hindering its construction had been successfully removed.

Delving into the technical details of the dam, Dr Nasir said it stands at a height of 123 feet with a length of 737 feet. Once completed, the dam is expected to provide a daily supply of 35 million gallons of water to Rawalpindi city.
