ISLAMABAD:

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has moved the Supreme Court against the suspension of a returning officer in Kohat.

According to details, the Peshawar High Court had issued a notification suspending the posting of returning officer Irfanullah in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly constituency of PK-91 Kohat-II.

The ECP contended in its plea that the PHC had issued the notification without hearing the commission.
It added that at a time when the nomination papers of the candidates were being scrutinised, the PHC’s decision was tantamount to derailing the elections.

The commission informed the SC that its polls schedule was time bound and it had to complete the process of scrutinising the nomination papers of the candidates by December 30.

Sources said the nomination process of candidates in PK-91 Kohat-II was being affected following the PHC’s decision.

The process of the scrutiny of nomination papers will continue till December 30.

The sources said the election in PK-91 Kohat-II was likely to be stopped if the scrutiny of nomination papers in the constituency was not completed.
