From inspiring Coke Studio Africa’s multigenre remix to the instrumental rendition performed by British Army regiment’s band, Pasoori has found cross-border love, recognition and creative focus. Originally sung by Ali Sethi and Shae Gill, the 2022 song was not only Coke Studio Pakistan’s most popular offering but also emerged as a chart-topping hit across the country.

And if there were any doubts about Pasoori’s influence, a new cover is making waves in the music scene with its innovative folk spin on the popular track. A band of dedicated fans and folk singers from Sadiqabad have revamped Pasoori in a viral video, drawing wide appreciation from internet users including Coke Studio’s producer Zulfiqar Jabbar Khan, commonly known as Xulfi.

Posting the video to his Instagram grid, Xulfi appreciated the song cover in the post’s caption. “I think this is my favourite rendition of Pasoori,” declared the producer-composer. “Some incredible artists from Sadiqabad just having a wholesome jam moment together.”

With TikToks, covers, dance trends and more, Pasoori was the most streamed Pakistani song on Spotify for 2022 according to a press release. The sensational Punjabi song beat all other Pakistani songs released that year, as per Spotify’s Wrapped insights, both locally and globally.

Sethi took to his social media to share the news. “Pasoori has surpassed expectations, overcome prejudices, and broken so many records. I am so proud of Pasoori for achieving these milestones while fully embodying its message of inclusion,” he wrote while expressing his excitement over the love that the song received worldwide.

Gill, too, appreciated the Pasoori’s enthusiastic reception and admired the power the track holds to touch so many hearts. “A huge achievement for Pakistan and something that we all can be proud of,” she exclaimed.
