Construction of six mini dams approved

Dams will be constructed in Rawalpindi, Chakwal, Attock, and Jhelum districts

RAWALPINDI:

The Punjab Small Dams Organisation has approved the construction and topographic survey of six new mini dams in the Rawalpindi division.

A total of Rs15 million has been allocated for the survey of these reservoirs and is expected to be completed in the next two months. Following its completion, the construction of the dams is anticipated to start in May or June of 2024.

Under the plan, dams will be constructed in the Rawalpindi, Chakwal, Attock, and Jhelum districts. These dams will irrigate around 5,000 to 20,000 acres of land and will provide drinking water to the residents of Islamabad and Rawalpindi division.

New amusement parks will also be constructed near these dams.

On the other hand, the construction of the Kotli Sattian Dam within the Tehsil Kotli Sattian of the recently established Murree district has also been approved. This area boasts towering mountain peaks surpassing Murree's, where a novel recreational spot has been developed. Additionally, plans for the Papin Dam in the Chak Beli Khan region of Rawalpindi, as well as approvals for the Khori Dam, Sora Dam, Attock, Ahmad Dal Dam, and Khor Dam, have also been granted.
