Thirty-five people killed for putting up resistance to robbers

During the year, there has been an increase of 43 percent in the rate of crimes in the district. Thirty-five people were killed for putting up resistance during the incidents of robberies.

The total amount of money people had been robbed of was recorded at Rs3 billion.

Besides, 12,243 motorcycles, 149 cars, 876 rickshaws and other vehicles were stolen from across the district.

Over 160 people sustained injuries while standing up to the robbers. The robbers struck at 32 factories, 298 houses and 666 shops.

During 56 “police encounters”, 41 alleged bandits were killed and 34 were injured while nine police employees were also injured during the “encounters”. During the year, the registration of cases also increased by 40 percent.

Police recovered more than Rs560 million worth of stolen goods from robbers.

According to the data shared by official sources, with a 40 percent increase in the registration of cases compared with the previous year, 71,270 cases were registered in the limits of 44 police stations in the year 2023.

The rate of robberies also increased compared with last year. In the limits of 44 police stations of the district, 352 cases of murder, nine cases of kidnapping for ransom and 35 cases of robbery were registered.

Police registered seven cases of attempted suicide, 769 of harassments, five of acid attacks, 11 of abuse of minors, 390 cases of rape and 25 cases of gang-rape.

The cases of kidnapping runs into over a thousand, women being the victim in most of those cases.

During the year 2023, Khalid Mahmood Hamdani, Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi and Usman Akram Gondal served as CPOs.

A spokesman for the CPO’s Office said that this year registration of cases had increased due to the prompt registration on the instructions of the IGP of Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar.
