Rs15m pledged for diabetes hospital, research centre

Scores of patients say they bank on diagnostic and treatment services at hospital which requires donations

PESHAWAR:

Philanthropists on Saturday pledged over Rs15m to Aims Diabetes Hospital and Research Centre, Hayatabad after patients made passionate appeal via a telethon to help the hospital continue their free treatment.

“I have been getting free services, including insulin free of cost from the past 10 years. Therefore, I appeal to well-off people to donate generously to the hospital so that services to poor people can continue on a sustainable basis,” Tariq Hussain, a roadside vendor, told a donors’ conference held at the Aims Diabetic Hospital and Research Centre, Hayatabad on Saturday.

According to him, he and other poor patients would have died long ago had they not found this facility where they underwent free check-ups and received free medications every month.

Scores of other patients, including women and children, said that they banked on the diagnostic and treatment services at the hospital which required donations to keep their hopes afloat.
