Caretaker CM pushes early completion of hospitals’ upgrade

Caretaker Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi has called for opening the ground floor of the Punjab Institute of Cardiology emergency block by December 31 and completion of the work for upgrading the hospital by January 15.

During a visit to the PIC, he ordered handover of the third floor of the bock to the communications and works department by the night and the establishment of a lab collection centre at the main gate.

After reaching the Mayo Hospital, he ordered opening of the emergency block by January 7 after completion of the upgrade.

He directed the Parks and Horticulture Authority to improve the condition of the lawn of the hospital.

After receiving briefing at the site of Lady Willingdon Hospital by an FWO official, the caretaker CM ordered the demolition of the old building as soon as possible.

Reviewing construction work at the Punjab Dental Hospital, he issued directives to establish a state-of- the art sterilisation room for keeping surgical tools.

Speaking to the media at the Lady Willingdon Hospital, Naqvi said the Services Hospital building had bene in a deplorable condition. He said the gas installation work at the PIC would be completed by the night.

He said the biggest emergency medical department of Punjab comprising 230 beds was being constructed at the Mayo Hospital.

“We are handing over a park adjoining the Children Hospital to the PHA,” he added. He stated that the C&W department had declared the old building of the Lady Willingdon Hospital dangerous. He said the lives of patients and health department staff could not be put at risk.

He said the Dental Hospital Jubilee Town project had been launched in 2007.

The emergency wards of government hospitals had excellent doctors, he added.
