Health minister reveals that drugs are infiltrating educational institutions through staff

KARACHI:

The University of Karachi’s Institute of Clinical Psychology recently orchestrated a one-day national conference centred on “Substance Use Prevention and Treatment: Bridging the Gap Between Research and Practice” (ICP-NCSUPT-2023).

Dr Saad Khalid Niaz, the provincial health minister acknowledged the formidable challenge of stemming the supply of drugs due to rampant smuggling and distribution.

Dr Niaz revealed that drugs were infiltrating educational institutions through staff, and actions were being taken against these elements.

The conference featured Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Afridi’s insights into the co-morbidity of psychiatric disorders among drug addicts and the necessity for a multi-disciplinary approach.

A total of 21 research articles and papers were presented during the conference.
