Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Tuesday strongly criticised the judicial system, accusing the judges of both the Lahore High Court and the Supreme Court of being involved in the alleged judicial murder of his grandfather and former prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.
“Those judges are ‘killers’ as they are responsible for Bhutto's hanging. Instead of being a place for justice, the Lahore High Court has been perceived as a crime scene to this day,” the Bhutto dynasty scion said while speaking at the Golden Jubilee of the Constitution of Pakistan at the LHC.
The PPP chairman said that any mistreatment akin to what Bhutto had faced would not be tolerated in the future, regardless of the political party or the prime minister involved, even if it was the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.
He expressed his optimism in the apex court, where Bhutto's presidential reference was under review, saying that the judges there would cleanse the stigma that tarnished the judiciary's image.
Bilawal said that the leader (Bhutto) who was the spokesperson of the Ummah was in Lahore. “He (Bhutto) explained that the oil you have is not only a source of income but also power,” the PPP chairman said. “Our brothers and sisters are being oppressed in Palestine. Even then there was oppression, but the leader at that time was Bhutto. He decided that he will not give you oil as long as there is oppression against the Palestinians.”
Highlighting Bhutto's contributions to making Pakistan a significant power in the Muslim world, Bilawal emphasised that Bhutto was a victim of conspiracy, vowing to rectify historical inaccuracies regarding his death.
Addressing PTI founder Imran Khan, Bilawal criticised his politics, accusing him of propagating hate among the youth.
As Bilawal criticised Imran, members of the Insaf Lawyer's Forum voiced their support for the PTI leader.
Bilawal, appreciating the democratic expression of differing opinions, emphasised the importance of positive politics for the country's progress.
Bilawal stressed the necessity of positive politics, historical correction, and the implementation of laws for the country's advancement.
Bilawal criticised both the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and the PTI, noting their deviations from democratic principles once in power. He said someone wanted to become what he called an "Ameer ul Momineen" and the other a "tiger".
Appealing to the bar councils, Bilawal urged them to cooperate in Bhutto's presidential reference.
Despite acknowledging the critical phase the country was undergoing, Bilawal expressed confidence in overcoming challenges and fulfilling the promises made by Bhutto for the nation's welfare.
