In a heart-wrenching incident, a young man shot dead his female cousin – a first-year student – before taking his own life in the Soan area of Khanna police station on Monday.
Police sources said young Akash liked his cousin and had been constantly forcing her to marry him for some time. However, the student refused him every time by telling him that her focus was on her studies and that she did not want to get married.
They said the girl told her family about the proposal in response to which her family categorically refused to give her hand in marriage to her cousin.
The news did not go down well with Akash and left him dejected.

Dismayed at the rejection, Akash intruded into his relatives’ house in the Soan area on Monday and all of a sudden opened fire at his cousin who was studying in her room, leaving her dead on the spot.
Later, he turned the gun on himself and ended his life with a bullet to the head.
The sources said police took the bodies into custody and handed them over to the relatives after examination while a report of the incident was registered and further investigation was under way.
