ISLAMABAD:

A judicial magistrate’s court has reserved its verdict regarding the production order of the former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan and the acquittal of PTI Senator Shahzad Waseem.

The court presided over by Judicial Magistrate Yasir Mehmood has maintained suspense over its decision in the case pertaining to the alleged violation of Section 144, involving the former prime minister, the PTI senator, former Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, and others.

The case was registered at the Abpara police station.

Following the hearing, Sheikh Rashid was permitted to depart after his appearance, while later, Senator Shahzad Waseem and Senator Saifullah presented themselves in court.

Attorney Sardar Masroof, representing Senator Shahzad Waseem, appeared before the court and submitted a plea for the acquittal of Shahzad Waseem.

Masroof went on to argue that the challan lacked evidence against his client, urging the court to grant acquittal and issue production orders for the co-accused.

In response, the court stated that it would carefully consider the matter before making a decision.

Masroof further appealed for a hearing on March 19, citing the dates set for other cases and suggesting that by then, elections would have taken place, and political tensions would have subsided.

The court, keeping the public in anticipation, has adjourned the case's hearing until February 24, 2024, while deferring its decision on both the production order for the former chairman of PTI and the acquittal of Shahzad Waseem.
