Learning a new language is an exciting journey, and the Duolingo app has become a popular companion for language enthusiasts worldwide.

With its gamified approach and user-friendly interface, Duolingo makes language learning both fun and accessible. To help you get the most out of this powerful tool, we've compiled a list of four app features that are a must try. Whether you're just starting or looking to enhance your language skills, these strategies will help you unlock your full language-learning potential;

1. Set realistic daily goals

Duolingo offers the option to set daily learning goals. To set goals, open the app, tap on the Shield icon representing Daily Goals, and choose a goal that fits your schedule, such as 5, 10, or 15 minutes of daily practice. If these options don't suit your needs, customize a goal that you can consistently achieve. You can also enable daily reminders for practice. Once your goal is set, practice regularly by completing lessons, exercises, and quizzes within the app.

2. Learn with friends

Connecting with friends in the Duolingo app is a great way to stay motivated and make language learning more enjoyable. To do this, first, ensure you and your friends have Duolingo accounts. Then, open the app and tap on the Friends tab at the bottom. You can either search for friends by their usernames or invite them through email or phone contacts. Once you're connected, you can compete in language challenges, view each other's progress, and send encouraging messages.

3. Make use of the Duolingo Stories

Duolingo Stories provide engaging, real-life scenarios to help you improve your listening and reading comprehension skills, making language learning more practical. To access and make use of Duolingo Stories, select the language course you're currently studying. Scroll down to find the Duolingo Stories section within your chosen course. Pick a story that matches your language proficiency level and interests. As you read and listen to the story, pay attention to pronunciation and context. Afterwards, complete the accompanying exercises to reinforce your comprehension and skills.

4. Customise your course

Customizing your Duolingo course is a straightforward process. Start by opening the Duolingo app and selecting the language you're learning. From the main screen of your selected language course, tap the Crown icon. Here, you'll see the Skills Tree, which represents your course progress. To customize your course, tap on any skill that you'd like to focus on or skip. You can choose to Test Out skills you already know or Practice skills that need reinforcement. Tailor your learning path by navigating the Skills Tree, allowing you to adapt your Duolingo experience to your specific needs and interests.

Set realistic goals and enjoy the experience of learning a new language!
