KARACHI:

The noose around the necks of Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) officers allegedly involved in illegal construction in the metropolitan city is tightening as cases have been registered against them.

According to sources, illegal construction in Karachi is executed through various devious methods, making it increasingly challenging for citizens and builders to adhere to legal construction processes. There seem to be two distinct systems operating within the SBCA, as per sources. One system aims to project the image that cases are being filed against SBCA officers involved in illegal constructions to halt such activities. Another system allows the continuation of illegal constructions, posing difficulties for law-abiding citizens seeking legal construction permits.

Judicial pressure has compelled the SBCA to initiate cases against its own employees. Despite cases being filed against SBCA employees involved in illegal constructions, the pace of unauthorised construction in the city remains unabated. According to sources, there are suspicions that an officer under the authority of a building officer is orchestrating a system of illegal construction, particularly in central, west, and east districts.
