HYDERABAD:

The legal community in Tharparkar is determined to oppose mining and excavation activities on Karoonjhar mountain in Nanagarpark.

Newly elected president of the Tharparkar District Bar Association, Advocate Faqeer Munawar Ali Sagar, has declared at a Mithi reception on Thursday that, having triumphed in the legal battle at the Sindh High Court (SHC), they stand ready to uphold the case for Karoonjhar at the apex court.

In a landmark ruling in October, the SHC prohibited excavation and mining on Karoonjhar, emphasising the mountain's significance in religion, culture, heritage, wildlife, and nature.

Sagar, a petitioner in the case, affirmed, "Karoonjhar is the jewel of Sindh. We will not let anyone destroy it."  He pledged the full readiness of Tharparkar's legal fraternity to contest the case in the apex court if the SHC's order is challenged.

Despite being a petitioner, Sagar credited the district's lawyers for supporting him in legally combating those endangering the beauty of Thar, heritage, and nature.

Senior lawyer Bhairo Lal Mukhi assured that the legal community would persist in being a voice for Tharis, emphasising their commitment to advocate for the rights of Thar and its people.
