KARACHI:

The metropolitan city has seen a visible surge in abduction cases in recent days, with two incidents reported within the last 24 hours involving a businessman and a youth.

Muhammad Harisur Rehman, accompanied by his driver Asghar Khan, left Malir Cantt to visit his poultry farm Tuesday afternoon. As they traversed from the metalled road onto the jeep track below the Baqai College Road, a black car intercepted his vehicle. Four armed men disembarked from the car, one wielding a Kalashnikov assault rifle and the others carrying various weapons.

Disguising as Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) officials, the armed men forced both the businessman and his driver out of the car, making them sit in the rear seats. The abductors then proceeded to take the driver, Asghar, out of the vehicle before kidnapping Haris.

In a separate incident, 19-year-old Mujtaba Ali was abducted along with his car from the Maymar Road in Ahsanabad neighborhood of the Site Superhighway Industrial Area. Following a complaint by Amina Ali, the wife of Muhammad Ali and the mother of the abducted youth, a kidnapping case was filed at the Site police station.
