A family tragedy unfolded as a woman and her four children died of suffocation while her husband was in critical condition at the Ayub Medical Complex, Abbottabad.
According to the police, the family was residing in a house owned by a labourer named Banaras in the limits of Nawan City police station.
The incident occurred late Monday night when the family, grappling with load shedding, resorted to using a gas heater in their room, said the police, adding that gas leakage ensued, leading to the fatal accumulation of gas in the room.
The grim discovery was made on Tuesday evening when neighbours noticed an unusual lack of activity in the household.
Upon entering the premises by breaking the door, they found the family members unconscious and subsequently confirmed the tragic loss of five lives.
The deceased included 26-year-old Shamim Bibi, five-year-old Varmaisha, one-year-old Zainab, seven-year-old Wasib and 3-year-old Umar.
