Got exactly what I'd asked God for: Naimal Khawar opens up on marriage, meeting Hamza Ali Abbasi
Gracing Mazaq Raat, the elusive Naimal Khawar sat across from host Imran Ashraf for his line of questioning. The two dove into several aspects of the star's life. From shedding light on how she and her husband, actor Hamza Ali Abbasi met and got married, to whether or not she would continue her acting career - a lot was spoken about and shared.
When asked about how the love story between her and Hamza began, the actor revealed, "We met on the shoot of my first film, Verna, and the meeting lasted two seconds. Then, he messaged me related to work. It was a painting. After that, he came to my exhibition [and the rest is history.]" She continued, "He'd asked me that he wanted me to make a painting for him. I was also talking to him related to work, where I said I'd make the painting for him. When the painting was made and done -" Imran interjected, saying, "A new painting began."
Continuing forth, Naimal shared, "I went to study abroad after. After a few months, he said he's sending a proposal. The proposal arrived at home. There was a small meeting with my father, man-to-man. My father said that he wanted to talk to this boy first, and I wasn't allowed here. He said I would not be present. Because no one from my family is from the industry. And this industry boy suddenly came in, and my father, being a Pakhtun, insisted on meeting. [Hamza] met my father, received approval, and we got married."
All praises for Hamza
Naimal opened up on how she felt after Hamza received the seal of approval from her father, saying, "I was quite happy. It felt really nice. I thought I must have done some good deed, which is why I've got such a pious husband." The star also did not hold back when praising her husband. "I think I'm very lucky [when it comes to love]. I got exactly what I had asked God for," she stated.
Furthering on, she said, "And the most important thing that I'd asked for was that whoever I get married to, he must be God-fearing, which is rare in today's world. I truly do consider myself so fortunate that Hamza is solid when it comes to that. That attracted me to him, and that is what made me fall in love with him." The star also opened up on the couple's rare fights. "We're of similar temperaments. He's soft-spoken, as am I. Should we ever fight, we resolve it quite quickly, we're both resolution-oriented," she stated.
On acting
Talking about acting, Naimal shared, "I did fall in love with the camera...I didn't think it would happen. I truly had no idea that I would like the camera, how I'd be in front of the camera. I had this fear inside me. But when I saw myself in the camera, when I played with my emotions, I really liked it." The star also mentioned how it took six months of intense shortlisting for her arrival on the show to be possible, given that she'd chosen to start doing interviews again.
Shedding light on bagging Anaa, Naimal shared, "I believe it was 2018, if I'm not mistaken, when I had newly started acting. I was studying. I received a call with regards to a drama offer, asking if I'd be willing to do it. I read Izza's character. My mother used to read scripts with me. She read how there's this girl, she has a certain temperament, and she remarked how similar Izza was to me. I related to her character to such an extent that I decided to do the role, even though that was not my plan. I thought after the film that I would not do a drama, and I'd go study. But it was such a great character that I ended up doing it. It has stayed with me to date. My fans know me as Izza."
The star also conveyed her deep gratitude to her fans for loving her constantly since 2018 to date. "My [direct messages] are filled with prayers, for my family and myself." She thanked her followers profusely and said, "Whatever we are, it is because of you."
Imran questioned Naimal about why she didn't want to continue acting after her film. She revealed, "When I did the film, I felt my education was compromised. I am also a painter. And, again, the way I express myself with my brush, I feel it is the same with acting." She explained how as an artist, one uses tools such as brushes or acting to share their emotions with the world. "There was quite a similarity, which is why I was pulled back." The host posed a question regarding Naimal's return to the screen, to which she said, "InshAllah." Questioned about the kind of role she'd want to do, she said, "I like scripts with love and romance."
Upon being asked about the best actor according to her, Naimal took veteran star Nadia Jamil's name. She spoke about falling in love with the star and her skillset after watching her on-screen. When asked about her biggest achievement, she spoke about her final year thesis that she did on the local khwajasira community. "I received a distinction for that," she shared. "My father was extremely proud."
Life partner, motherhood
Imran questioned the star about tips for choosing a life partner she said, "Before choosing your life partner, choose yourself," said Naimal candidly. "Work on yourself, study, become something, and then choose your partner. When it comes to picking the man, he should be good-hearted - nothing else matters."
Talking about motherhood, Naimal revealed, "Life before becoming a mother was carefree, you're so lost in your own zone. After becoming a mother, you have responsibilities, but it's such a massive gift from God that you are bestowed with. It's a selfless love...You don't get that from anywhere else."
