ECP appoints ROs, DROs for 859 constituencies

Shuffles election commissioners in Sindh, Balochistan

 In a significant development, the country’s elections oversight authority has issued notifications for the appointment of Returning Officers (ROs), District Returning Officers (DROs), and Assistant Returning Officers (AROs) for 859 constituencies across national and provincial legislatures.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) released the notifications on Monday, appointing officials tasked with overseeing the electoral process.

As per one notification, the ECP has designated the Islamabad deputy commissioner as the DRO for the federal capital.

The polls supervisory body has appointed 36 DROs for the National Assembly and provincial assembly seats in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) province; 41 DROs in Punjab province; 30 DROs in Sindh province and 36 DROs in Balochistan province.

The ECP has appointed a total of 266 ROs and AROs for the National Assembly seats. These include three ROs and AROs for Islamabad; 45 ROs and AROs for the K-P; 16 ROs and AROs for Balochistan province; 141 ROs and AROs for Punjab and 61 ROs and AROs for Sindh.

It has appointed 8 ROs for reserved seats of the national and provincial legislatures.

The ECP has appointed 115 ROs and AROs for the K-P Assembly; 297 ROs and AROs for the Punjab Assembly; 130 ROs and AROs for the Sindh Assembly and 51 ROs and AROs for the provincial assembly of Balochistan.
Additionally, the ECP has exchanged election commissioners for Sindh and Balochistan provinces.

A notification confirms Aijaz Anwer Chohan's appointment as the provincial election commissioner for Balochistan and Sharifullah as the provincial election commissioner for Sindh province. Previously, Chohan served as the election commissioner for Sindh, while Sharifullah, a grade-21 officer, was deputed as the Balochistan election commissioner.

An ECP spokesperson emphasized that these appointments adhere to the law. He assured that the ECP is committed to conducting fair, transparent, peaceful, and impartial elections.
