KARACHI:

Parks, once plagued by drug peddlers and addicts, have been revitalised for citizens, stated Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi Amir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman on Wednesday while inaugurating five family parks in Nazimabad and North Nazimabad localities.

The infrastructure of these parks had deteriorated over the years due to a lack of maintenance. They were abandoned by children and families, turning into playgrounds, or worse, spaces for drug addicts and encroachments.

Taking note of the deteriorating situation, the JI resolved to restore and rehabilitate the parks by replacing broken benches and shades, leveling the pavements, erecting fences and boundaries, and adding necessary lighting, plantation, and greenery. Small libraries for children to read books have also been established.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of Family Park in North Nazimabad Block N Naeemur Rehman urged mohalla committees to keep vigilance on the regular upkeep of the parks to ensure they remain maintained and free from any encroachments and illegal activities.

Hafiz Naeem mentioned that the mayorship of the city was stolen and given to feudal lords, who have been ruining the city for the past two decades. "Despite having a limited budget for TMCs where our local government representatives have been elected, citizens are witnessing a positive change in the city they had longed for," he said.
