Armed Forces of Pakistan, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and Services Chiefs on Wednesday paid glowing tribute to Major Shabbir Sharif Shaheed, recipient of Nishan-e-Haider on his 52nd martyrdom anniversary, the military said in a statement.
“During the 1971 war, Major Shabbir Sharif was ordered to capture high ground near the Sulemanki Headworks. The position was defended by Indian infantry, supported by a squadron of tanks. Major Shabbir Sharif captured the area by killing 43 Indian soldiers and destroyed 4 tanks,” the Inter-Services Public Relations said.

He and his men also repulsed counter-attacks of two enemy battalions, it added.
It also hailed the heroic actions of Major Shabbir Sharif Shaheed in 1965 and 1971, saying that it reminded that it was not numbers but faith, devotion and courage in adversity which make nations triumph.
“Let us remember these heroes who have laid down their lives in defence of motherland. The nation is proud of its gallant sons,” the ISPR concluded.
